    Drag Radials

What would be a good size DR for a stock R/T to use at the track. I have hear talk of 17" and 18". I just want to get out of the hole a little faster.

Oh I would be driving to the track on them so HAL would have to leave me alone.

I'm gonna switch to the Hoosier 275/40s or the Mickey Thompson (same size). Right now I have M&H 275/50s and I'm not thrilled with them so far.

Is 21lbs w/o tire, too heavy for a drag wheel?

Also, is a 25.8" tire too short for an RT?

Sweet, I know what setup I am going for in the spring.

Here is the link to the wheels, I am only going to buy two.

    http://edgeracing.com/2005/Dodge/Magnum_RT/wheel/3465/

They are more of an import wheel, but I dont care since I am just going to be using them for DR's

Also, Mickey Thompson makes a 245/40/18

The M&H is a killer tire just a little to tall for the 5.7.

Be careful going with the 18" rim.You may find that the short sidewall with a 26" tire doesn't give the traction you would expect.Generally you want the tallest sidewall you can get for the given tire height.......so on a 26" tall tire I would choose one for a 17" rim over an 18" rim.

    Hemi 31, that's a good point.

Does anybody use BFG KDWs for the track with any success?

Would it really be worth getting Drag Radials for a car that is stock?

I've run many many times on BFG KDW2's (255/55-18) and even with a LOT less air in them than 'normal' I could still spin them a long way down the track at Atlanta Dragway. Granted it's not known as the stickiest track on the NHRA circuit, but you have to be real careful you don't lose a shoe if you walk the starting line area..

With the 275/50-17 M&H's I can only spin them if they are wet. So far anyway...

    Traction is a wonderful thing...

    Mike,
Thanks man. I would have thought the KDW2s would have been better.

They are way way better than the stock conti's, those were like skating on ice at the track. The KDW's aired down to 23-25 psi would take a pretty decent preload at the tree without spinning, but just a tick more and it was all over the place. Launching from an idle seemed to work best with those on.

When I added SuperChips to the mix I was (un)pleasantly surprised to be able to spin almost to half track. That was kinda cool, even though it blew that run all to heck.

In the few runs I've had with the drag radials on, I've never spun off the line, even with the max preload I could get without pushing the front tires.

MArch 7 looks like the first Friday night at Atlanta Dragway, it appears that Hayes has the track on the 1st, not sure if that's public or not. Typically when Hayes rents the place they ignore their customers...

Aton of god info - my question now would be - I run 20" wheels now and I want the 17" DRs on the rear. The fronts are like 28 inchestall and the rears would be 26 inches tall. Would this upset HAL on thetrack?
