Weird hiss at around 2200 RPM with my new AFE II

First off.. many thanks to "Done" for showing me the light when it comes to intakes. I ordered up a new AFE stage 2 from Summit and bolted that thing on. I'm still grinning.....

I took extra care to avoid air leaks and really, I think it would be hard to mess the install up but its sort of sounds like its leaking at certain RPM's. Specifically, at around 2200 or so just before it begins to roar (my wife was not to pleased BTW). It sounds like a hiss or leak but it could just be because its flowing so much more air now.

Has anybody else noticed this with a AFE II?

My only complaint is that the kit could have had a little bit better hose clamps and that the tube didn't fit through the hole in the air filter housing without a little bit of a trim on the breather nipple. I was also assuming thats how it was supposed to go since the directions were a low quality photo copy and the pictures were about the size of a stamp.

    Anyway, about that hiss?

Same thing here - hissing sound while I'm cruising after air hammer install. Asked another fellow LX'er and he has the same noise. Nothing to worry about by the sounds of it...get it? ha..meh. Just the AFE filter sucking up air I think.

Hard to certain when you describe the sound second-hand, but I'm betting what you're hearing is normal. An open-filter intake is going to be noisier than the stock airbox. As well as the WOT growl that we all know and love, there can / will also be noises associated air movement at certain RPM's, throttle positions, etc...

My guess is normal also, I get a loud hiss on my Hammer HO when I shut the car off and a "cha" sound when I stomp on the gas.
