Taking it in for the Shudder tomorrow....wish me luck!

I've owned my new Magnum since Saturday. Bought it used with 13k miles. There is a noticeable shudder first thing in the morning when turning and also after I leave work at 5pm. Goes away after driving a few miles. Probably wouldn't even notice/care if I haven't seen the TSB or all the posts on this forum. I guess it gets worst, so my as well get it fixed now. My 2006 must be an earlly build, since it was built in 05/2005.

Made an appointment tomorrow with Perkinds Dodge in Colorado Springs. Going to bring a copy of the TSB (http://www.wkjeeps.com/misc/LX/TSB/TSB_2101106.pdf) with me just in case, but don't want to be a jackass

It LOOKS like an easy fix for them, so hopefully they can't mess up anything. It says 1.6hrs of work, which if I recall, is fairly small for warranty work.

I just want everything to be perfect before I add an exhaust and tune.... lol.

Good luck. As long as you've got a good dealership, it shouldn't be a problem. It seems a lot of them don't like customers "self diagnosing" and telling them about a TSB. When I had mine done, I did mention the TSB and that it seemed to fit the problem. I didn't dwell on the issue though and just let them check it out. They agreed, and did the work.

They will likely have to order parts. So, I wouldn't let them tear it apart unless they have them in stock. Unless, you can afford to be without your car for a while.

And, yes, it will get worse. I put up with mine for a while, but finally had it done just before hitting 36,000 miles.

Normal procedure is to tear it down and then order parts. They kept mine over a weekend when I took it in on a Thursday afternoon. I have the extended warranty so I go a loaner and picked my car up on the following Tuesday.

I'm worried they won't be able to duplicate it since I have to drive 25 miles to the dealership, so the shudder won't be noticeable. Hrm. Hopefully they take my word on it. I don't see why they wouldn't, it's $$ for them right?

My dealer wouldn't take my word for it. They wanted to check it out for themselves. I dropped the car off in the morning, and picked it up in the afternoon. They confirmed what I already knew. Then, they ordered the parts and I took it back to them for another day to do the repair. No overnight stays required.

My guess is that you will need to leave the car with them, at least long enough to have it cool down again. I was fortunate, as my dealer is only about a mile away.

I had the rear trans seal AND the input shaft replaced while it was apart. I went out in the shop and looked at all the pieces and saw for myself the problems. I like to get involved in my car repairs. After all, aren't they "mods" too?

Well, just got the call. They were able to duplicate it, found tranny fluid low like a quart, so filled that up. Let it sit for a few hours. Drove it, found that it still shuddered. Found a TSB that required updating the computer (not sure which computer) and they did that. Let it sit for a hour, no more shuddering.

At least it's documented if/when it gets worst. Still have 4 months of factory warranty good for another 4 months and also have an exteded warranty that I bought from the Dodge Dealer that is good for 60k or 4 more years.

They did fix a loose bracket on the driver seat that caused the lower plastic trim to hang low, so at least it wasn't a total waste of time.

Hmmm... a computer update that fixes the shudder? That's one I haven't heard before. Maybe they actually just put some Slick 50 in the transfer case! I predict that you will be back there before long, to really get it fixed!

I have a shudder as well, but is only when braking. When braking, the steering wheel will shake. The car has only 19,500 miles on it, so whatever it is, i'm hoping is covered by the warranty. Have not scheduled a time yet to take it in as I'm waiting to get the wifes car back first.

Just got the car last week-end. Noticed it driving home. It was 200 miles away. It could be as simple as rotating the tires? How about the rotors?

If it only happens when braking, warped rotors would be my first guess. I hope you don't have to return to the same place you bought it to have it checked out.

They said if I'm in the area in the next month to stop by and they'll look at it. Then he goes on to say that they are open 8-4 M-F. Well the only way I would be able to work that out is if I took off work and then drove the 200 miles there. I suppose warped rotors isn't something that would be covered under the 3/36 warranty? Anyone know how much that costs. Thinking I'll have it done locally and then send that dealer the bill since it should have been something they should have fixed before selling it.
