At least the people at your dealership know how to fix the problem.
I took mine to a local 5-Star Dodge Dealer (I didn't buy it there, got my Magnum RT AWD from an exotics car dealer), and told them exactly what the problem was.
I explained the whole deal about the friction plate in the transfer case. The service rep just gave me a blank look while I explained. He'd said they'd take a look at it as well as the thump I feel in the drive train whenever the car down shifts from 2nd gear to 1st.
I spent 3 hours in the lobby, and they finally called me back, said they'd fixed it. They handed me a bill for $128.00 (I'm outside my 3 year warranty) and told me they'd replaced the differential lubricant and to drive it for 200 miles to work the fluid through the differential and resolve the problem.
As for the tranny down shift thump, they said they could not replicate the issue, which is ridiculous because every time I stop at a stoplight it sounds like something is dropping off the bottom of my car.
I felt had. I knew I'd been had. But I knew I had to drive it the 200 damn miles to humor them. I've driven the car 450 miles with absolutely no change in performance, the shudder is just as bad and still getting worse.
Now I have to try to set up a new service appointment around the Sonogram appointments that my girlfriend has already set up, and also try to get all this done without disrupting her work schedule (her car isn't working currently so I'm her only ride in to work).
I'm pretty frustrated. I told them what needed to be done, why the hell didn't they listen? Next time I walk in there I'm just going to slap a copy of the TSB onto the service desk and just tell them to follow the instructions.
For God's sake.
