AWD Wheel questions / KMC Nova??

I finally have the money in my hands to buy some new wheels for the Magnum, but I am having a terrible time trying to find some that I like that will fit properly.
    Question #1
-Is there really any negative affect with using 114.3mm wheels?? Seems to be some debate on this issue. And there is infinately more choice with this size.
    Question #2
    - What is the actual backspacing on the factory wheels? What is the highest and lowest backspacing that is useable without problems. And lastly what is the maximum width that can be used front and rear.

If any of you would like to post pics of your wheels it would be appreciated.

    Blair,

For a very long time all wheel manufacturers used the 5x114.3 bolt pattern on the LX cars. It wasn't until just last year that they started using the 5x115 bolt pattern. You are correct that there has been alot of debate on this subject. Let me tell you that your wheels will not loosen and fall off if you choose to use the 5x114.3 pattern. Many people have and still use this bolt pattern on their cars with no problems. Of course if you can find a wheel that you like in a 5x115 then thats even better. As far as offsets 34mm is the minimum you should use and I would say 42mm (if you could find a wheel in this offset) is another good choice. Very hard to find a wheel with the correct center bore at that offset. Also I would recommend either 255/45/20's or 265/45/20's for your tire size. If you haven't made your choice as far as vendor, pm me and let me see if I can help you with your wheels.

From what I have heard Ernie knows his stuff.

You will hear both sides of the coin when it comes to 114.3 vs 115 bolt pattern.

Some people have had vibration problems. Some people have blamed the 114.3 bolt pattern for wheels coming loose because the bolts don't seat correctly and the studs get stressed. So you will hear that.

Others have had 114.3 wheels on their charger or magnum for years without a hitch.

So you have to make a valued decision for yourself.

I would agree with what Ernie said. All I would add is to make sure that the wheels either have the correct center bore, or that you use hub-centric rings. Bolt holes aren't the best for centering a wheel.

Little correction to what Ernie said.
34mm is the minimum you should use
I would say that on an AWD 32mm is actually the most aggressive offset you should use. That's what I run and it's on a larger diameter rim.
What you really need to remember also is that your outside tire diameter factors heavily into the equation as well.
Best bet is to keep the tires+wheels no bigger than the AWD OEM total diameter of 28.6 inches. If you can keep it within those confines than your offset (ET) can be a li'l more aggressive.
Also, nowadays there are a LOT more rim manufacturers that are making their sets hubcentric AND with the correct bolt pattern. I wouldn't recommend running anything other than the 5x115 bolt pattern and 71.5 centerbore. There's just too many correct choices now and you don't wanna be in the category of "may or may not vibrate at speed".

Thanks for the responses guys! Any AWD's running the KMC nova in 20"
Im leanin towards this now, just wondering about fitment since they are a 114.3 wheel, not sure of center bore.

Both. I run a 9.5" on my AWD but one of the Noktutnal members in California runs 8.5" on his AWD. There's a member on CustomMagnums that is running the U2-U35 wheel that's 10" wide on his AWD.

What is the offset you have with the 9.5" wide, I am assuming around +34mm? Also what tire size did you go with?

From this thread can I assume that a 8X18 Rim with an Offset of 35 (MSR Style 045's) using 255/55/18's (Toyo Proxes STII's) will work? I DO NOT want Tire to Fender conflict!

Man it is hard to find good wheels for the AWDs! It's all persoanl preference I guess.
