Dyno run sanity check - FYI --> I am not OG maganasaurus

Hi, I am new here and not to be confused with OG magnasaurus. Sorry man, I didn't realize, I'll try and get it changed.....

    Anyway....

I baselined my 100% stock 2006 Dodge Magnum AWD R/T today in anticipation of some tasty mods. I'd really like opinions on this because it was tricky to spin up and their is this big huge anamoloy at about 4200RPM where the HP and torque jump almost straight up like a nitrous hit (there is no NOS of course).

I am unfamiliar with AWD dyno's so I took it to a place that cam highly recommended although its a import tuner shop specializing in AWD EVO's and DSM's. They were real cool though. i am none the less perplexed. I never dyno'd a car, I am a sport bike guy. It looks awkward and wrong where the AFR just dumps all at once. Is that to be expected?

The pic below is 2 runs in third gear using the sport shifter instead of full auto mode.

Sorry its huge but my scanner is a POS and its not readable any smaller:

Ok, the peaks are about where a stock engine would be, maybe a little low. The sharp jump in the curves also coincides with a sharp drop in the AF ratio. I would wager that it was at that RPM that the operator actually went WOT. Prior, the AF is showing closed loop figures.

Don't worry about the shape at this time. The peak figures look just fine for evaluating the efficiency of mods. You want relative comparisons on the dyno runs.

Run your car on the drag strip. Stock AWD's run in the 14.5 to 14.7 range. Mine is well modded and I am in the 13.1 range now.

Sweet, I'm cool with the peaks being a little low and I would guess the debate rages about which dyno is the most accurate like they do on sport bike forums. In the end, as long as I use the same dyno (and hopefully the same operator) before and after its all good. Its the delta and the linear curves that matters most to me.

The only drag strip is 120 miles away at Sears Point. So I'm going to have to improvise but I hear ya.

Care to comment on my recipe. How much imporvement might I see? Anything obviously missing?

    This should happen in April....
    - JBA Shorty headers
    - Borla Cat Back exhaust with resonators.
    - K&N intake
    - Diablo Tuner
    - 180 T-Stat (maybe a fan mod)
    - NoESP Mod
    - Ventilated and slotted rotors (My stock brakes have squealed from day 1. I hope this gets it)

And within the next few months since I'm breaking the bank right now
    - Mid pipes
    - High flow Cats

And with next years bonus maybe some actual engine work
    - cam, lifters, pistons, etc. I'll have about $5K to work with.

I would suggest either the Air Hammer or AFE II over the K&N as those intakes are proven to add power, the K&N does not.

You should have a fan mod for the track. The 25 cent mod works or get the CoolIt device and the NoESP mod at the same time (same vendor).

I don't think you need to use low fan settings on the street, just use the factory settings in the Diablo.

I would guess that your mod list will get you to around 14 in the quarter.

I would also estimate the low 14's or very high 13's with those mods. I have a very similar mod list, and I seem to be running consistently between 14.0-14.1. On a good day, I got my best of 13.88. Have fun with your modding!

So as luck would have it my vendor did not come through on the K&N. SO I will investigate the Air Hammer and AFE II.

But I also saw this I-Charger supercharger from GS Motorsports. I think I may just go for it. I can see myself owning a few 5.7 Liter Hemi's in my lifetime. I could just transfer it from car to car. The pre-order sale price is pretty attractive but I've never heard of them before. They are www gsmotorsports com -> It seems to good to be true.

I'd post the actual link but I can't yet....

Yes, that is a new system. No one here has installed one and made any reports. Your big issue with an SC is tuning. To maximize the performance and to minimize risk, your car will have to be tuned on a dyno. As you have discovered, AWD's and dyno's are a tough match. Typically the vendors of the SC do the tuning. Do a lot of research before you make a hard commitment.

The first thing I did when I started getting serious the other day was try to find a tuner. I made calls and sent emails around and got no replies or interest. I heard nothing back from GS Motorsports as well since their site says they do installs. I guess they don't want to sell any i-chargers.

The thing is I'm not looking for 25lbs of boost on an AWD but the 6-8PSI sure looks like a good fit. But your right, who the heck can tune it. I found a competant AWD dyno operator but the shop that runs it is a hard core specialty shop, they have work up the wazzu and EVO's stacked 5 deep.

Apparently I need the Michelangelo of AWD LX tuning and he doesn't exist.

I'll let you know what happens when my AWD gets a turbo here soon.
