you won't win, the Charger is too heavy. I had a 2001 Impala LS with the 3.8, torque steer is a bi*ch but it weighs close to 1000 pounds less than the LX

now if you had an R/T that would be a different story... can we say STOMP

That's weird. I thought we would be able to beat them.

Anyway, just go for it. If you don't he will say you are scared. If you do and lose, then at least you take it like a man.

According to Car & Driver, the 2002 Monte Carlo SS (in stock trim) is a 16.6 second ride... Admittedly it seems high for a performance car, but I'll bet its at least in the ballpark... If he's runnin stock, you should easily smoke him! Do IT!!!!

I can say yes. I've taken the Impala LS's with the 3.8 before which is the same car really. Some guy was being a butthead so we pulled up to a stoplight. When the light turned green we both floored it. I pulled away from him pretty good. Twice at 2 stoplights. He finally gave up. The Magnum weighs about 400 lbs more (not 1000) and I think the Charger is even lighter than the Magnum. the 3.5 has 50 more Horsepower and 25 ftlbs more torque than the 3.8 You will take him as long as you don't lose traction racing on a wet surface.... ( we know how these rear wheel drive LX's can spin the tires on wet pavement when doing a fast launch)

I think GM has done a fine job of diluting the, "SS" image to the point it should no longer be assumed to mean performance car. Makes me sad.

    Damned marketers.

I think it'd be a good race. I'd give the edge to the Monte though

I put a lot of miles on an 03 MonteCarlo SS and it's no slouch, but then neither is an SXT. I drove an SXT a LOT mainly to annoy the dealer who couldn't get me an RT, but also for fun too. I think the Monte will outrun you on the top end, the white one was still pulling hard at 130 or so when I got out of it and while I've never gone more than 80-ish in an SXT I think the edge has to go to the Monte.

If one can handle the torque-steer, it's gonna be close I think.

The SXT should take the 200 hp 3.8L powered Monte Carlo unless you get some kind of terrible launch. I've taken the 3.8 Impalas before as I said in my above post. The Monte and the Impala are the same, just different sheet metal.

I think that it would be a close race...
the SXT would prolly do better off the line, the Impala has 3.29 gearing
The L36 is a torquey motor though....
