Some new dyno sheets... before new major mods

So its been a while since my last dyno pull and in hopes of reaching some personal hp/yq goals I needed some more recent numbers.

    Baseline Numbers (CAI, exhaust):

    174rwhp, 195rwtq

Performance Mods from Dyno Test Performed 3/11/2009:
    Inertia V1.1 Cams
CNC ported/polished Throttle Body - beta tester from BT(front side only)
    Ported/Polished lower intake manifold
    Airhammer HO Intake
Blastin Bobs 10db dual conversion (replaced suitcase w/ Dynomax muffler)
    Custom tuning by Mike Lafrad
    89 octane pump gas

Performance Mods from Dyno Test Performed 1/11/2010:
    Inertia V1.1 Cams
Hand ported/polished Throttle Body - Front & backside
    Ported/Polished lower intake manifold
    Airhammer HO Intake
Blastin Bobs 10db dual conversion (replaced suitcase w/ Dynomax muffler)
    Custom tuning by Johan
    JBA Shorties, Ceramic Coated
    Jet-Hot Coated Valve Covers

    89 octane pump gas

The Dyno Sheets: (Red lines are run from 3/11/2009, Blue Lines are from 1/11/2010)

    Horsepower / Torque:

    Horsepower / AFR:

    Torque / AFR:

    Outcome, Discrepancies, Perceptions, & Driveability:

The previous run in red was was done with the motor at about 180* where as the new runs shown in blue were done at full heat soak (not sure of the exact temp). Towards the end we let the car cool for about 15min and did one last pull and got about 10hp and 10tq increase over the previous runs. Unfortunately the shop was closing and he had already printed everything out for me thats shown here and its not of huge concern to me.

These runs were done on a dyno dynamics dynometer which are known to be very conservative but very accurate because they take into account vehicle weight among other things into the correction factors so your numbers are very close to what you put down on the street - not just on rollers. The car was at full weight, 3/4 of a tank of gas, spare tire and rear floor, full interior trim, etc.

So what was the outcome... well, the car made more power earlier in the powerband for both horsepower and torque but lost a bit in the top end. It made an exceptional amount more low end torque and probably about 10hp! The tuners at Dynocomp suggested this was probably because of the car coming into open loop sooner. Not really sure why it lost power in the top end but some of the guys at the shop thought they heard knock right in the range where that drop occurs...and that 4500rpm mark is the magical "short runner" change for the plenum. The guys at dynocomp also mention the rev limiter appears to have been raised a bit from the previous run as well so that may impact things.

Changes in driveability... well the car produces more power where it counts and that makes me smile. Its more predictable, you dont have the knock sensors pulling timing left and right from false knock in the low end so acceleration is smoother. The car still bogs occassionally and I blame heat soak.

I plan to relocate my IAT down at the end of the airfilter near fresh air. I also will be installing jet-hot coated timing covers to match the valve covers (mainly for cosmetic reasons). The big mod coming shortly is stock-valve Inertia CNC Cylinder Heads. The dyno numbers will be posted on my SpringFest show board...
Starting over with a new Magnum RT (SRT8 Conversion)... 6.1L with SRT Max Cam, Corsa catback with chambered center pipes, Sinister Extreme dual ram intake system, SRT Suspension, silver Brembos, graphite powder coated Charger SRT wheels, frost white intake manifold (ported) and valve covers, matte black engine bay, carbon fiber engine accents, 300C SRT8 Front end, Matte White vinyl wrap, Black Ops 300-Challenger style carbon fiber hood. Nice build going, its pretty cool to see all the stuff thats available to you 3.5 guys. When I used to have a 3.5 all the performance mods we had was just exhaust, cai, diablo and headers. Now you guys have strokers, superchargers, heads, cam and most of the works!

Interested to see what the heads do for you.

Once again great detail in your work. Hopefully those heads help you raise up the high end.

    Wow.

I didn't realize the 3.5's peak power was so low in the RPM range. I figured, being a smaller motor, it'd be about the same or higher.

The peak power is usually in the 5000-5500 rpm range there is an issue with Ryans tune on this new one...

Great writeup! I'm looking forward to seeing what the CNC heads do for you since I'd eventually like to drop a set on my car too.

Thanks Ryan for sharing. Those are still pretty good numbers, but it's hard to believe how fast it dropped in numbers. Once I get my cams in, I'll have another dyno done on mine. I'm curious about what it makes with the V6 Kit installed now and Johan's tune.
