    MPG improvement mods

So I am thinking of doing the CAI and a cat back dual exhaust.

For those that have done this does it help with MPG gains?

    TIA

Adding nitrogen?? Filling them or just adding some? Where can you do this?

I noticed maybe an extra 1 MPG but that's about all, it sounds a lot better now, lol.

OK, I have to ask.....how does adding or filling your tires with a slightly larger molecule type of gas/air increase your mileage? Scientifically speaking, this should make absolutely no difference. I would guess that your mileage may have increased slightly due to you now having the correct air pressure in all 4 tires, and has absolutely nothing to do with nitrogen.

If anyone has actual proof that nitrogen improves your mileage, please educate me??

Generally speaking performance mods improve efficiency, and improved efficiency will result in better gas mileage. Starting with the breathing mods (CAI, cat-back, etc.) is a good idea...

In theory the CAI and cat-back exhaust systems will improve mileage. In practice they don't because you won't be able to resist stepping on it.

i always make sure i have the same tire pressure in my tires. (with 30 profile you would too). after i put it in i went on two different trips. one to fargo and back to brandon. and then the other from winnipeg to brandon. on the second trip i reall noticed the difference. i did 200 kms there. the 50kms in the city. (not driving normally if you know what i mean) and then 150 kms to my moms. the total there in 400 if you are adding up. when i got to my parrents the guage was right on the half way line. i have never used only a half a tank to drive that far and with city driving. so the proof is there. when i go to work today i will grab one of the hand outs and i will post it on here.

from my understanding of nitrogen, which this post pretty much backed up.... the pressure stays constant longer. outside of that, its really about having the CORRECT pressure in all tires, which you already stated above

in short it doesnt make a difference as long as you do your maintainence.

    howsit, brah,

intakes help the engine breathe easier, less restriction when pulling in air...

exhaust helps it expell gases easier.

both increase efficiency and if done right, helps power. not all intakes and exhaust will be efficient as others, by looking at dyno sheets, some actually LOSE POWER. if you lose power it can be a sign of the engine becoming LESS EFFICIENT. the engine is now doing MORE work to do its job, which means less power output to the wheels.

a few more things that will help efficiency and proven to do so:

    1) Switching from platinum to iridium spark plugs. small gain, but the electrode the spark travels through is way smaller and iridium is a better conductor.... which means less energy is used or lost through travel, and more energy to create the spark. the gains though arent huge, but its good for quicker starts and MPG.

    2) good maintainence. this is my own personal deal, but instead of waiting till 3000, i make a habit of doing oil at 2750. in city driving, DC, VA, MD... its rough. so with summer heat oil breaks down prob quicker than if i lived in a less hustle bustle place.

    3) if MSD ever came out with an ignition amplifier such as the MSD DIS 4.... youd gain efficiency with more complete combustion, and that lasts 20% of the crank rotation. not just one single spark... the "HEMI's" use the same technology, hence the reason they use 2 spark plugs instead of one. if we can get MSD into these cars, acceleration, throttle response, and MPGs will improve a great deal.

    4) stock sized pulleys, just lightened versions are also another helper. they dont have em, but i'm looking into that with the old group of j-bodies that produced em i used to be around. basically the crank pulley we had over there was around 3lbs...the aftermarket, same size pulley, was 14oz. when you lower the rotating mass from 48oz to 14 oz.... less work for the engine, more power that can be gained...mostly in acceleration there though.

overall, just think of things that will make the engine work less, brah. its like a heart in a person, if it works more efficient, the power output will be greater, and you will get farther with what you currently have.

    g'luck uso!

don't knock it till you try it. i knocked it all the time and thought it was PS also untill i put it in my tires. i have been getting better millage ever since i did it. beleive what you want though.

trust me, from doing autoX for a couple of years now, i;ve already tried it... its 24.99 in the DC for all 4 tires, but the leakdown only seemed slower. tire pressure was constant for a few weeks more given than i raced every other weekend. less checking and using the tire pressure equalizer gimmick i bought from jegs.com, but outside of that, as long as my tire pressure is checked before long trips... i see no difference. thats in both the charger AND the j-body.

check out some of the tech sites regarding this... remember, placebos work just as good if you believe in em...
