Dumb question but why shouldn't you use the gaskets that come with them?
I'm about to have a set installed so curious....has anyone had negative experience with the JBA supplied gasket(s) failing and the failure wasn't due to the install procedure?

Also, if you had to buy a second set of gaskets, why wouldn't you buy Fel-Pro gaskets instead of MOPAR?
    ...again just curious.....

DO NOT attempt to use the crap felt gaskets that come with the JBA headers, make sure to use the Mopar header gaskets.

While you are getting your gaskets get a set of 6.1 header bolts or Stage8 locking header bolts <What I use>, but be prepared to reuse 1 old ones, the one with the dip stick tube attached.

By far the easiest way to do this is to remove the head or the entire motor. Since that may not be an option your gonna F@#$ your knuckles up and you will not be able to get a torque wrench on most of the bolts. Torque is important here as these are Aluminum parts that heat up.

DONT BUY JBA MID PIPES!!! THEY SUCK.

The gaskets that come with them are just felt gaskets, there's really no integrity to them at all and they will blow out the first time you put your foot on the pedal. I don't see any reason why you can't buy Fel-Pro gaskets, I actually just reused my stock ones. No leaks and been working find for almost a year now.

I'm running felpro on mine right now and no leaks after a year. Just don't use the ones that come with. It's not worth doing the install a second time.

IIRC from pics of 5.7 manifolds, should be 02 sensors. Go get an O2 sensor socket at the parts store. May be able to do a loaner tool deal. You pay for it, use it, return it.

Just make sure when you do the install to never seize everything. Don't use the cheap stuff neither, u need the copper stuff. It's rated for 2000 degrees.

So I ran into other problems and had to wait on the headers...... I finally just got a couple days off from work and I'm about to start the task of putting the headers on again. I have one more question, whats the torque spec on the header bolts goin into the heads?

Below is an excerpt from the '06 LX service manual - left and right side should be the same

    "LEFT EXHAUST MANIFOLD
    1. Position the exhaust manifold (7) and gasket (1).
Install the retaining bolts (2). Tighten 4 bolts starting
at the center working outward to 23 N.m (200
    in. lbs.).

When you attach the downpipes to the headers, make sure your cats clear the frame. You may have to loosen the exhaust bolts further down the line when you're tightening everything up to ensure clearance.

I had mine installed yesterday and the installer said it was a bee-atch! He showed me cuts/scrapes on his arms so be prepared. LOL
What a difference though!! - A little throatier at idle, much better sounding at mid to heavy acceleration and the power on demand factor brings a smile to my face every time. I think overall, you'll be happy with the results.

the shops around me kept quoting me 400 for the install and you would have leave your car over night to allow the engine to fully cool down. i saved the 400 bucks and installed them my self in 5 hours. plus what the shop doesn't tell you is that if they break a bolt getting the old headers off there gonna charge you to remove the head and get the rest of it out. highway robbery if you ask me.

I am glad this thread was started. My project plans included JBA Shorty headers, Magnaflow Cats, and a custom exhaust w/ cutouts. Do you all recommend new O2 sensors with a full exhaust upgrade?

Not unless u need them. There expensive. And becareful with high flow cats, they make our v6 sound more like a 4 cyl Honda and really gain nothing. That is out the mouth of a magnaflow rep to me when I thought about it.
