    Gas Mileage

So I have been averaging between 18-19 MPG city driving with my 3.5L. We took a roadtrip yesterday up to Sedona (lots of hill climbing); had 4 people in the car (averaging about 85 mph) and we got 21MPG. Does this sound normal, it bugs me hearing the RTs that get 24mpg? Has fresh Mobil-1 full synthetic and all 89 octane fuel.

I'm getting the same city (I do little freeway) as you are. I've not had her out on a roadtrip so far but I would hope for 4-5 better doing 75. I not supprised doing 85 comes in at 21. Are the Hemi's really able to get 24 @ 85????? I know they run DOD when under lite load but that is impressive for such a beast. FYI, my brothers 07 CRV (fwd) will get 27 @ 80.

24 is probably pushing it, especially at 85. I average 22~23 @ 75 with a lot less hill climbing and weight in the car.
That said, an RT probably would be equivalent, after all the 5.7 doesn't have to work as hard climbing hills at 85 with a full car.

Yeah, I would say in a lot of areas I hit 90+ and considering it was a full car and stock intake I think 21 mpg is fair. I was mostly wondering about city driving...I baby it through town with maybe the occasional led footing.

In pure city driving (stop and go, 35~45 mph) I average 15~16 give or take 1/2 MPG. If I drove like I couldn't find the gas pedal I'd probably be around 17 but it's so easy to build thrust in that car I can't say no to the HEMI demon when the light turns green.

Yeah this is a v6 forum. v8 gas mileage really doesn't help this thread.

I do about 40 miles a day to and from work. I average about 21-22 mpgs, but that's also including stop and go traffic in Portland. I've yet to take it on a road trip. Looking forward to that day. I'm sure it'll get at least 25-28 on the highway with normal driving (70-75mph).

My G-ride is an impala with the 3.5L and on the highway it gets 30. But the car is lighter than the charger/magnum.

I bought my RT for the Hemi engine, I was not concerned about the gas mileage.

It is nice to get good gas mileage with it, using Superchips and 93 octane helps.

I do average 18-19 in the city, and usually about 24 on the highway, it depends on the speed I am going.

Did get almost 31 MPG at 55MPH, using cruise control and no A/C.

Eunospeed asked ^ "Are the Hemi's really able to get 24 @ 85?????"

So that sounds to me like someone wanted input from a V8 member. I will answer that question by saying the best mileage I ever got from my 5.7 was 24mpg. That was with 4 adults in the car, driving 70-75 on flat Florida roads.

In comparison, I just got an SRT8 and drove it home to FL from Atlanta and averaged 21-22mpg. So even the giant, thirsty 6.1 can get decent highway mileage.

dont think he meant any harm by it, but he does have a small point as well as you, yourself did.

being this is the v6 forum, many of the posts have a large amount of v8 guys giving their own results and input (which isnt really a bad thing) but many who post in the v6 forum for v6 info dont realize that doesnt pertain to their engine specifically.

more or less it can be a clutter of confusion when sometimes half the results/info given doesnt really pertain to "v6 specific". no big deal though, brah!

Understood - I wouldnt have posted if it hadnt seemed to me that it was a question that was being asked that could only be answered by someone with a V8. It sounded a bit like a not-so-subtle invitation to take a hike, but its always hard to gauge inflection from text posts.

My mileage has sucked ever since winter got here.Don't know if its due to the winter blend of gasoline or what.Use to be 23mpg(75%hwy),now it's 20mpg.This is a 06 Magnum,8000 miles,3.5L.

Most probably the winter blend of gasoline. I drive 100 miles round trip to work daily and absolutely notice the difference when the blend changes. My first gas fillup I computed 24 MPG 60% hwy 40% city. I would figure 25 as normal for this 3.5 engine. I got 24-29 out of a 3.5 Magnum that we rented out in CO last summer. That was when I fell in love with them.

    Now I own one!! WAHOO!

    Peace

I know it's hard with these cars to drive a boring old 65 mph with cruise control, but if you try that you will be surprised. My RT Magnum will get 25.5 and even my massive Hemi Ram Quad cab 4x4 got me 19.8 mpg on a 450 mile highway trip. Winter gas will normally cost you 1 mpg. BTW my everyday mileage with the RT Magnum is 21.5.
