    Finally some V6 Love???

    Ladies and Gents,

I've been snooping around on the discussion board on www.prowleronline.com, and I've learned of a company (Westech Auto) that makes 4.3L and 5.0L stroker kits for the 3.5L engine in the Prowler. I know that this may be old news to some, but it's something new for me.

So, I called Westech Auto today, and talked to Jim about the whether or not their stroker kit will work in our engine. He told me that it will bolt it, but...surprise, surprise...the problem is the PCM. He told me that they have been working with Chrysler for a while (FYI, Westech Auto is located near the plant that manufactures the 3.5L engines) to develop applications for the 3.5L V6. He didn't give me a timeframe, but he did say that are definitely interested in the 3.5L V6 (especially since its used in a number of Dodge/Chrysler vehicles), and that the more interest that they can show Chrysler, the better.

I'll be sending Jim a link to my website and to this thread. Hopefully he'll join the forum and our discussion. The Westech Auto website (www.westechauto.com) is in the process of being updated, so keep checking back with them.

I know we've been let down by other companies, but Jim is the first person that I've talked to personally that is sincerely interested in, and definitely wants to tap into, the 3.5L V6 market. Let's be sure to show our support and, HOPEFULLY, something good will come out of this.

    Hey there, amigo.

Are you talking about Westech Auto or ProwlerPro? ProwlerPro has the 5.0L Prowler with the highrise intake manifold. I've also tried contacting ProwlerPro, but they never respond.

Try not to drool to much over this....

This is the reply I received from Jim about the gains from the stroker kits in the Prowlers:

The stock 3.5 in the Prowler made somewhere around 187 hp at the rear wheels on our chassis dyno. Our 4.3 N/A is pushing 250-265. The 5.0 (with serious transaxle mods) is close to 410. The killer is the 4.3 stroker with a 10 psi Pro-Charger pushing 450-460.
    and this...

Almost forgot to tell you, if you look on the Prowler website, back in March of this year, you can see our 5.0 Yellow Prowler at the dragstrip in Lousiana. We had 3 cameras mounted inside the car for a bird’s eye view. The car ran 12.101 @ 120 mph N/A and 11.7 @136 with a 100 shot. Sure woke up a few LS-1/LS-6 and Mustangs!!!

I'm curous too, but probably a whole lot... Figure, Prowlers were pricey to begin with. The guys that bought em' had some coin and were in it for the uniqueness of the ride, and since there wasn't a higher output engine offered.... if they wanted a fast prowler, they had to pay the price, be it 5K or 20K... And there's not too many prowlers out there, so I'd imagine production costs were high.

We on the other hand can only spend so much (sensibly), before upgrading to an RT or SRT becomes the more feasable option... And I'll bet us V6 folks don't have quote the budget of the Prowler camp... Welp, enough naysaying -- I'm hopin for the best!

I'd say you're probably correct with respect to the Prowler....but, talking with Jim, they are looking to produce applications for the 3.5L V6 used in all Dodge and Chrysler vehicles...i.e., more "massed produced." Hopefully, that will bring down the price a bit.

I've got a few questions in to Jim. When I hear back from him, I'll post his response(s).

I received an email last night from Jim at Westech...and the news isn't the best:

The kit cost for a supercharger is going to be around 6K installed and tuned. They will be complete kits from drive in to turn key out.

I would need to see the specifics on the tuner kits to be able to determine if they would be compatible with the stroker / or supercharger kits. The stroker kits will be in the 12K-13K range. All installations need to be done at our shop at this point. The install time will be around three weeks for a stroker and two weeks on a supercharger.

so for a stroked and sc'd 3.5, you are looking at 17-18k being the cheapest. factor in new brakes, and suspension, and we are probably at the 24k mark. hmmmm plus the cost of the maggie in the first place. we'll just say 24k is the base model SXT price w/no options. we are looking at about 48k, for 450-460rwhp. i mean, that is definitely a stock SRT eater IMHO but you still have just a base sxt. no leather, no sunroof, no evic, no nav, no heated seats, no nada, and 17"wheels. i guess it all boils down to what the owner wants. if i had the spare cheese sitting around, i would do it. but i know not everyone feels that it would be a good investment. plus not having you car for at least 5-6weeks, and trying to figure out how they are gonna control the PCM/TCM and a new rear end. damn it man, i guess it is just cheaper to grab an RT or SRT.

I would buy an SRT6 motor out of a wrecked car. They are supercharged from the factory. Not sure if they will fit, but seems like a much cheaper alternative if it does fit.

PS: I am driving a v6 Charger today (rental car.) Lil sucker got some pep.
