    Johan;

    The learning process for the MPTCM...is that information stored within the TCM module?

    I am not a 100% but i would like to say yes, just because when you purchase an MTCM it advises you do allow it to relearn by following their driving cycle guidelines for the re-learn so i would think it is stored in the tcm rather than the pcm based on that info.

    This is for those that have installed the MPTCM and are not sure that they can tell the difference. I made a statement is post #11 where I detailed how I did my initial install and thought everything was o.k. Well, I was all wrong. I couldn't really tell a big difference, but just thought that that's just the way it was. I then followed Johans' instructions in post #1 and all I can say is that it's like night and day difference. Thanks again Johan.

    Thanks Johan, we appreciate your expertise/input;

    There is a huge difference in performance between the OEM (RT) and MPTCM. As soon as I performed the MOPAR re-learn instructions a few months ago, my particular set-up has the tires (315/35/20's) chirping into 3rd gear on a regular basis @ WOT.

    So is their an advantage with the Mopar TCM over the Diablo programmed one? I thought Diablo wrote the same values that the Mopar TCM has?

    Thanks,
    Scott

    ...the more appropriate assumption would be that it is occuring on "dry pavement"

    I have a CMR tune and, for a while, I loaned my MTCM to CoolVanilla; swapping in a stock CMR-tuned TCM for awhile. So I got a back-to-back comparison. The MTCM is *very* different. Just for starters, it locks up fully all the time except out of the hole in first gear. That is a huge difference when decelerating into corners, where you are downshifting to help make the corner and be in the right gear on corner exit. The tuned 'stock' tcm is so different and so much less capable due to how it handles lockup that I considered it unsafe to use on the track and wouldn't go back on until I got the MTCM put back in.

    Note that when I am saying 'track' I mean road courses, not drag strips.

    edit: then there's limp mode, which you can find with a stock tuned tcm and cannot find in a MTCM. Thats where the 'unsafe' part came in on the track.

    After doing all of this can you set your stock TCM to the MTCM after the predator has the back up of the MTCM on it?

    *The only times you can hose (set back to stock) a mopar tcm are under the following conditions.
    1/ You let the Predator take a backup with the stock tcm in and restored the backup or restore quick adjusts with the Predator.
    2/You do a "force re-learn variant" procedure, this is rather uncommon but it will set it back to stock settings regardless if you took a backup with the stock tcm or mtcm installed.

    So to properly use an Mopar tcm in your vehicle with the predator please follow the basic guidelines.
    *With stock tcm still installed, restore your original backup.
    *Install mopar tcm
    *let the predator take a new backup and use as normal.

    Follow these steps and you will be fine and never hose your mtcm.

    NOTE: Firmer shifts using the mopar tcm will not do anything as it already uses that setting for the shift firmness.

    I personally have two vehicles with this tcm as well as Predator/Trinity on them and i have verified all this to be correct.

    I think the biggest mistake people have been doing is to not restore their original backup before installing the mtcm and thus allowing the Predator to read the new tcm string settings that are in the mopar tcm.

    Just an FYI to clear the air....
