Restore original back up with stock TCM in place...Swap plugs to MTCM...Load tunes etc...But unplug the MTCM before reverting back to original factory tune?? Or does reverting to OE tune now keeps the MTCM programming part of the OE tune??

So to properly use an Mopar tcm in your vehicle with the predator please follow the basic guidelines.
*With stock tcm still installed, restore your original backup.
    *Install mopar tcm
*let the predator take a new backup and use as normal.

    Ummm..I am stoopid..I get it now (dee-dee-dee)

Almost right. After you go back to the original backup and plug the MPTCM back in, it will then prompt you to do a backup when you go to load a new tune. Once you have that, you no longer have to worry about swapping the original TCM in anymore.

My question is, if we have a CMR tune, should we download the new backup and then use that when we load the CMR tune to the Predator, instead of the old original backup?

I just reloaded mine again tonight, and I stopped when it asked to browse for my original backup, and made me realize I probably need the original backup I just did with the MPTCM in it. The one I've always used was the original I took when I first updated the CROM file over a year ago.

But to make a backup with the MTCM you need to load a tune after plugging in the MTCM to change the original backup in the Preditor to the one with the MTCM.
Then any tune you load after that would have to be with the new backup..........one would think.............better wait till Johan asnswers the question.

I'm in no hurry to do it

No you don't. It asks to do the backup before loading the tune, and after it does the backup, you can stop and not load the tune.

I'm pretty sure. It reads the PCM and TCM info during the backup prior to loading the tune.

I have been loading tunes over my MTCM for over a year now and haven't hurt it, I was even dyno tuned with it in once
Force relearn is a "force" feature that is in options>>troubleshooting that we added if a pcm gets hosed somehow to transfer the trans string data from pcm to tcm, it requires a password from one of our tech to enable so it is not a common practice.

You can not load a tune into a Predator before a backup has been taken, if you do it will just be discarded.
If you have a custom tune:
    1/Install stock TCM
    2/Restore original backup
    3/Install MTCM
    4/Take a new backup
5/Load custom tune from PC to Predator, then load it into vehicle
    ...thats it.

During a backup event we read the PCM, and we also read the necessary info for the QA adjustments, it is the QA adjustment section that will hose an MTCM if the backup was taken using a stock TCM and then restored into a MTCM, if that makes any sense.

Thanks Johan. That's exactly what I did. But just to be clear, when we load the custom tune from PC to Predator, and it asks for the original backup file, does it need to be the new one we just did - or does the backup on the Predator all that is needed?

Does not really matter, but it is always good practice to use the latest one, the backup in this case does not contain any of that info for the tcm anyway, it is stored inside the predator.

The learning process for the MPTCM, is that stored within the TCM module?
