    LX Ride Categories

After completing the SRT Track experience, I had a greater appreciation for our LX platform cars. Also at out last M&G we were asked to fill out a form describing the category we would place our LX rides into. I started to wonder about the achievements of our club members.

I recall two of the categories as being performance (racing of one type or the other) and show (basically mods to our rides that express who we are). I know the collection of this information is a work in progress and do not want to get ahead of the work the officers of the club are performing and the outcome objectives they are going to achieve.

I do have a question regarding those in the performance category. How many of you are into drag racing and what are your best times posted in your ride? Do we have any members that achieved times better than expected for our stock LX rides? Which mods did you find to be the most bang for the buck? Do we have any members that are into road course racing? What are their achievements? In regard to show cars, which members have received recognition for the mods?

    Enquiring minds want to know!

Dr. Al, I'll give you a quick overview of the stats as I know them.

    40% are show
    30% are performance
    30% are show & performance

of the 60% performance....1/2 are into racing, the majority being drag racing.

I'm hopeful our fellow members will chime in with their experiences regarding racing.

Well I didnt get to fill out the stuff. need to show up sooner to events I guess. But the on that really surprised me is last year at the Austin M&G. They had a scavenger hunt. It was a timed event and over all time I placed 2nd. (It was not racing because no LX driver would ever promote street racing. Just a timed event that the fastest car got a prize ) The car that beat me had an Austin police officer in the car with. And I was very suprised on how well the car actually changed lanes properly and with in speed limit.

One clarification on that event in Austin. It was a Mystery Cruise game. The idea was to use clues given and an Austin visitors book to figure out where you were supposed to go. Upon arriving, you would find a C2M2 Member who would mark your score card with the time of arrival.

Ultimately, the idea was to get to each stop in the right time interval. Early or late arrivals would cost you points. Example: it is an 8 minute drive from point A to point B if you follow all the traffic rules and only catch half the traffic lights. Getting there in more than a minute different from 8 minutes, cost you points. The more off the 8 minute arrival, the more points deducted.

We had lots of positive comments on that game. I think we will see it again this year! See ya in September here in Austin. Details to follow....

Didn't you make it to the Texas ALL MOPAR event benefiting the Tx School for the Blind?

we have almost every variation of exhaust, but the BB might be one we don't have. i'll have to ask around.

I do (the 9dB version), but I've replaced the suitcase muffler with Flowmaster's so mine sound different and have the drone in a different RPM range.

Rob, if you happen to hear of anyone with 7dB's or 5dB's could you pass their info on to me? I'd be interested in experimenting with theirs if they don't mind and haven't welded them up.

Yea, I had them on with the suitcase, but I really didn't like the sound... though the loudness was OK. I wanted an old school muscle car sound and the suitcase doesn't give that IMO.

Drone too much is pretty subjective. My setup drones quite a bit though. whether or not it drones too much is hard to say.

FWIW, if I had it to do all over again I'd probably just go with the Flowmaster cat back and call it a day. My brother has that one and while I think mine sounds better at idle and driving thru the parking garage, his sounds better thru the rest of the band and has little to no drone at highway speeds. The only thing I don't like about his is that it has very short tips (and they're straight too) and don't look quite as good as BB's or some of the others. That's a pretty minor thing though and I think dollar-for-dollar that the FM catback is pretty hard to beat.

I agree with you that dollar-for-dollar, the FM are a great buy. I also wanted that old school muscle sound and decided to install the Magnaflow high flow cats and Corsa exhaust. It was the right choice for me as the old school muscle sound is there at start-up and under WOT. Also, they do not exhibit the dreaded drone while cruising. The only problem I am having at present is the passenger side O2 sensor is throwing a code. I will need to have this addressed.

I have the Cherry Bomb Vortex Mufflers where the suitcase was and 11db BB tails pipes. It gets pretty loud inside and will vibrate quite a bit.
The CB were quiet compared to what they are now with the pipes. They do have a good low RPM rumble and really scream at WOT.

I havent made the past couple M&Gs but I guess I would classify my car as Show and Race. I show as much as I can and race on Friday nights at a local 1/8 track in Angleton in a class call Street Stock, all you need is an inspection sticker and DOT tires, and is set up bracket style and run the number.
