    Challenger LC Platform Mopars

Just got my copy of Hot Rod Magazine and on the front cover is a picture of the 2008 Challenger. Got me to thinking whether the SpaceCityLX club is going to allow them into the club. Personally, I don't see why not as they are Mopar's! If we do, should we change the club designation by changing the "X" part to lower case implying either LX or LC platforms? Conversely, we could drop the LX all together. Any thoughts?

we actually thought about that last year when we came up with the name SCLX....what are we going to do when the challenger comes out? our thought is to do exactly what LXForums did....welcome them with open arms. i also thought the platform was LY per the wiki on this site.

    http://www.lxforums.com/wiki/index.p...t_Does_LX_Mean

as for the name change? for now we are going to keep the LX as homage to our beginnings (i know, we only started May 07...but you get the idea). Perhaps we'll starting saying SPACECITYLX MODERN MOPAR or something (the opinions of rob do not necessarily represent those of sclx, it's leadership, or it's membership).

all i can say is, it's a good problem to have. my dad owned a 1970 Challenger and when i showed him a pic of the 2008, he lit up. i really wish he still had the original...but i digress.

According to Hot Rod Magazine, "This new Challenger is built on what is known internally at Chrysler as the LC platform, a variation of the LX Platform...". Maybe Hot Rod Magazine has it wrong?

Two contradictory thoughts in that last paragraph but I will focus on the important one. The reason I raise this issue is because if I had a Challenger (and I wish I did) and was looking for a club, the fact that our club designation categorically states “LX” would lead me to conclude the club is exclusively LX and that I need to look elsewhere. In fact, if we look at the introduction statement of our club’s web page, it discusses only LX platform cars. The first question in FAQ’s states:
What qualifies me as a member of SCLX?
We have two simple requirements: own an LX vehicle (300, Charger, or Magnum) and be eager to share/learn about your vehicle.
I guess the purpose of my communication is to assure that the club captures what will be an emerging population of car enthusiasts which the club will benefit from. We are the fastest growing club in the US and the larger our contingency the better for our club. Thinking down the road, our M&Gs could become National events.

I understand that we must honor the past as our club would not exist if it was not for the leadership of our club. But is our mission to honor the leadership (rhetorical question)? Or perhaps it is to honor the past of the Mopar family of cars?

If it is the later, could I then suggest we modify the clubs web page to reflect this thought?

OK time to fall off the stool! LOL

Rob is correct-- the leadership team had this discussion when we landed on the name to have lift off in space city .

Our cars being LX have paved the way for the new LY platform ( challenger, etc) --- so as we continue to grow, we'll look to emphasize the modern mopar aspect....heck why wouldn't we want these awesome cars in our midst !!!!!

thx Dr Al for presenting a real opportunity for us to embrace as an organization ... thx for your support of sclx.

    DarthCharger/Dr Al,

You always make valid points and your opinion is always welcome. Many organizations keep their "heritage" names even though the letters don't mean what they used to. NCR, 3M, and BP are just a few examples. In fact, INTEL stands for INTegreated ELectronics and we can see how far they have come from those beginnings yet the name remained the same.

The original SCLX logo does share the tagline with this fourm, MODERN MOPAR MUSCLE. That in itself is misleading I guess because as a club, we embrace and welcome all engine sizes and trim levels, not just the HEMIs. All I know is we'll have to figure this out the name before the first Challenger hits the streets. LOL. I just registered www.spacecitymodernmopar.com just in case.

Bottom line, we want Challengers and whatever variations they make (c'mon 'Cuda) to look to SpaceCity______ as their club of choice. So you've brought up a great point. Thanks always for your staunch support of SCLX.

    -Rob
