    Arrow Anyone from Montreal?

    Hey,

Just wondering if there's anyone here from Montreal... I know there are a few of us "Northerners" on this forum.

Our roads are so bad here! I'm thinking of going for 20" wheels as soon as I get the car, but our potholes are so big I'm not sure if it's worth it. I may just stick to factory 18"s. Any opinions/advice?

I'm new to the forum and glad to be here! Awesome community!

    Welcome aboard.

As far as 20 are concerned you shouldnt have too much of a problem but if you go with a larger rim and a smaller sidewall on the tire thats when you run the risk of rim damage. But its a game you have to be willing to play. Rim damage is sometime unavoidable.

There are a few members from the Quebec area.

There are a few Montreallers on the boards. If I remember right, they're having a little get together sometime soon....OK, it's a large get together. Netsrac is the King in Montreal. He's the one that is always getting people together up there.

Sadly, I'm not from Montreal, although my mother is. I'm hoping to trek back up there sometime soon, but that won't happen this year.

Welcome to the boards, and enjoy the people here. There are a lot of smart people here that have tried a lot of different and unique mods. I'm sure that if you're thinking about doing something to your car, someone on here has already tried it and can tell you what works and what doesn't work.

    Welcome Cavalier

I live out in Pierrefonds, what part of Montreal are you from?

As far as 20" wheels go, they are not too much of a problem, I run them and no problems so far, but you still have to look out for large potholes.

My rims are fullface (almost solid), so they can take a pothole or two, but I don't like to chance it. I run a 40 profile, which is the lowest I will go.

I would not suggest a 22", you would only be asking for trouble.

Thanks a lot for your responses. So I shouldn't "worry" too much about 20s... Sounds good. Now I can just worry from a budget standpoint.

Just North of Montreal here. Riding on factory wheels (incl. base R/T wheels for the winter) but I think (as Netsrac) implied that it depends on the wheel design and manufacturer. Some manufacturers cheapen their products versus others. That being said, I see plenty of cars with large wheels around here, there isn't an epidemic of wheel shops getting overloaded with broken wheels.

You get what you pay for. (well, except for when it comes to the MTQ and SAAQ, of course).
