Guys, my hometown of Kahnawake will be holding it's 19th Annual Echoes of a Proud Nation Pow Wow the weekend of July 11th and 12th.
The Pow Wow was and still is a way of rebuilding the relationship between my community and the 'outside' communities and their residents. In 1990, there was a stand-off between the Mohawk Warrior Society and the Sureté du Quebec, and eventually, the Canadian Army. What caused this? An owner of a golf club wanted to expand his golf course onto our ancient burial grounds...
It's been a long time since 1990, but the relationship between us and the surrounding communities has constantly been improving. Every year, thousands upon thousands of people come to Kahnawake to witness the culture...from traditional dancing to traditional drumming...and some awesomely delicious food. What's on the menu? Well, there's buffalo burgers; walleye nuggets; corn soup; corn bread; Moose burgers; strawberry drink; sturgeon nuggets...not quite your standard everyday fare!
Please let me know if you are interested in attending...I can then arrange for us to meet up, and drive in together.
Thanks for looking...hope to meet you there!
Curt
