Well, it happened to me yesterday....

I found out yesterday morning that my office is part of a local closure of the manufacturing facility here and as of next May they are closing the plant and office where I work.
One positive is, I am being offered a relocation to a new office in Mississauga. It is a huge decision and I have only begun to think about what to do in regards to myself and my family.

Although I am not yet sure what to do I thought I would question my brothers and sisters on the forum that live in the Mississauga/Brampton area for some local expertise.

Any suggestions on areas of the west end to live? I know that the costs are quite different from where I am to that end of the city, but what sort of areas are more family oriented, and close to some good elementary grade schools. As well I do not want to break the bank mortgage wise.

I don't mind a 30 - 40 min drive to the office. The new office will be located off the 427 at airport road so north or nw is ok with me.
One good thing is, if I decide to move, I already know a great meeting spot on Fridays with others that like to talk cars.

    Any friendly advise is appreciated.

    Andrew

Alot of new construction in the NW Brampton area...where I just bought my house is only 7-8 years old...and there is a lot happening around the bovaird/mississauga road area...would be a good time to pre-purchase.

You can save yourself more than a few thousand in Orangeville. I work in Brampton and it only takes me 30 minutes to get in and home.

i.e. I sold my semi detached home in Mississauga and bout a full brick detached in Orangeville for a lot less!!

You want to avoid the 401 west route as much as possible. I would seriously be considering Orangville as well.

Stay away from centre Mississauga...getting quite expensive here and traffic is terrible. I would suggest Brampton, Oakville (a bit more expensive tho), Even Milton, Orangeville...all nice areas..Good luck

By the way...if anyone here is looking for work, my company has a manufacturing only website that employers (and we have a lot of large, Medium and small manufacturers listing) post all sorts of jobs from entry level to higher skilled trades..

The website is www.icme.ca. Not that I am promoting my company, but I know a lot of folks are facing layoffs, and unexpeced unemployment...

Yeah I would say move north. I moved to Newmarket almost 6 months ago and work in mississauga oakville boarder. It only takes me 45 min in the morning and 55 on the way home and I take the 401.
