Something to think about / discuss

I have an offer I'd like to throw out there on the floor for the lot of you to discuss. If there is enough intrest we'll go from there.

Being the Victoria Day long weekend and firework displays going off here and there. This is a good time to bring this up.

I hold a government issued Firework Supervisors Licence. I have been a pyro technician for 10 years. I design and execute firework displays using top notch fireworks imported from many countries around the world. I have worked with Garden City Display Fireworks crew on 2 separate occasions representing Ontario in Sherbrook Quebec for the Canadian Nationals and helped them bring back First and Second place trophys.
I do firework shows for a local resort every saturday from the middle of June until Labour Day. I have been their exclusive tech for the past 6 seasons. They've added 2 more shows to this years contract for a total of 12 shows.
For those of you living near Vaughn. I have done the Canada Day firework shows for Maple Downs Golf Club many times. A very exclusive club.

If there is enough intrest and we have a volunteer with plenty of land to host an evening BBQ and Fireworks event sometime in the future. I offer my service to obtain legal permits to fire a show. I will supply the equipment and materials used. I will design the display, set up, execute, tear down all free of charge. I am also fully insured. I have a 100% positve safety record.

Donations are the biggest factor after finding a nice safe site to do a show.

Many of you have probably attended a party at some point in the past, and were told that every one is to bring some family fireworks, and you'd have one real big show. They tend to be quite boring if the person in charge of shooting the show doesn't quite know how to pull it off, and can be dangerous. The markup on family fireworks is huge, mainly because of insurance costs to store dangerous goods year round.

The high priced 1 shot, 2" shell (160 feet up) (family fireworks) will cost you about 8 or 9 bucks.

I can do this cheaper for you using a professional 3" shell ( 300 feet up)

If space is limited, I can always downsize to professional 2" shells. Massive burst compared to the family 2" shell. Very cost effective for me to do for you. I have multi shot cakes that are incredible.

If you wanted to make this an LX event that included all your children. I could do two shows. An early smaller display for the kids before they fall asleep wrapped up in a warm blanket, then a show later on for the adults using the big guns.

To be on the safe side weather wise. If we wanted to we could plan for a Saturday event and keep Sunday open for a rain date.

The worst possible senario would be for all of this to fall apart at the last minute. After I have purchased the shells and special effects, and attached the shells to time fuse for choreography purposes. If I have spent $500 or even $1000 and hours of labour... I won't be out of pocket. Normally there is a sizable dismantle and re-stocking fee for cancellations. No charge in this case.

This offer is a golden opportunity to have something very special and personal with zero monitary obligations. If there is enough interest and we have a volunteer host with an adequate safe fall out perimeter, we can try to make this happen.

To get a rough idea if this is even feasable I wouldn't mind a post or pm on a possible donation amount. NO money up front. If you pledge a donation just bring it the day of the event. If this gets off the ground, I have a nice collection of shells of my own I'll add to ensure an incredible finale.

If an emergency occurs at the last minute, and you can't make it, but you have offered a certain amount as a donation towards the purchase of the shells, don't worry. I'm prepared to cover the difference. If I wasn't, I wouldn't have made the offer in the first place.

The word " if " appears many times in this post. This thread could die fast or grab some members intrest. Plenty of time to plan. This year or next. All our options are open for discussion.

Any comments, questions, concerns? Feel free to share your thoughts.

That is a pretty cool offer. I know my kids (more so me) would hope it comes to fruition.

Very cool idea! Not sure if my place could handle the turnout parking wise, but I'd consider it.

OK - here's one for the Family,

With the generousity and experience of Hemirection, we could consider having an incredible fireworks display at a night coordinated at the 5 Drive In in Oakville (9th Line & Dundas on the boarder of Mississauga / Oakville.

Not sure of the safety protocols, and or the logistics with the residents & local emergency services, but this could be a great place to consider.

I am very good friends with the GM of the 5 Drive In & have already started to work on the logistics of coordinating a drive in event for the LX Family "Meet & Movies at the 5 Drive In" as we would get in first, and be staged all together in the centre section & up front in screen # 1.

Bill, if you would consider looking into the logistics of what it would take to get this done at this venue, in this area, I will work out the logistics with the 5 Drive In Management.

We could potentially have a small portion of the door proceeds be put towards your services, and products that way everyone at the event gets to see your incredible work & some free advertising as well.

Let me know Crew what you all think of this & we can then work on making it happen.

Nice to see some interest so far. Looking at 2 suggestions at this time. I'd prefer to keep this more of a private and personal LX family thing. The Drive In theater idea is actually very interesting as well. A firework show at dusk just before the movie starts. However this option turns the event public. I also have to look at maintaining a safety perimeter. A property out in the country is ideal.

I have to produce a diagram with measurements of my proposed firing site, and have permission from the owner of the property to hold the event. With these two things I have to follow the by-laws in that district. Some permits take more paper work than others. Some permits have to pass local City Hall council meetings. The size of the safety perimeter dictates how large a shell size I can use.

I once did a firework show at a wedding reception. The space limited me to only being able to use family fireworks. Picture $2000 in family fireworks all time fused together to go off in sequence. The labour is crazy designing a big show with family stuff. If done right it can be amazing.

    keep it coming

There is a huge open farmers field right in front of the 5 Drive In, on the same side of the street well away from any patrons.

If interested I could make inqueries as to who owns the farmers field / land?

Regardless of where this event could take place, it is awesome & very kind of Bill to prompt this whole thing & much thanks to you
