Angry Renewing your insurance? Better hang on to your wallet.

Been frantically trying to find some affordable insurance as my policy renews next month.

2 MINOR tickets on my record:
    Speeding 60km/h in a 50km/h zone
Disobey traffic sign (turned left during rush hour)
    NO AT FAULT ACCIDENTS

My broker came back with a quote of $250/month. I went nuts. Told him I'd shop around.

Lisa called her home insurer (State Farm) and they came back with a quote of $445/month.

They said even with a clean record - NO TICKETS - the rate would be $204/month

I just got off the phone with another company, and they said $236/month. BUt since it's a different company I'd have to get a letter from my current insurer, etc.

So I may just stay where I am at since I've been there for so long.

But these rates are NUTS. Everyone we talked to said the same thing: that rates are going through the roof.

Anyone else renew lately? How did it go?

I pay monthly, but my rates renew every six months. My rates with State Farm just went up almost $40 a month. We're paying $182 a month for two Chargers, but we're old farts with no kids in the house.

mine just went down again, I was at $220 USD monthly for 2 cars and motorcycle last year, down to $156 monthly for the same 100/300/50 liability and full Comp/Collision with $250 deductible/ rental car/ towing service etc coverage..

no at fault anything for hmmm. 18 years, maybe longer.. no chargeable tickets in almost 20.. I've gotten several in the past 5 years, but fought and won all but 2 tinted window tickets, which aren't chargeable.

    you're $250 is CAD right? ($237 USD)?

$164 per month for the Maggy and Jeep... Full coverage, bla bla bla... Options here and there... State Farm is a great company! You definitely get your moneys worth with them... Only claims I have had are glass and ONE for UPS running me off the road... UPS tried to say I was racing, but State Farm didn't care because the truck had NO reason to be in my lane... WHAT? Insurance company doesn't care if I was racing? But anywho, UPS didn't want to pay for it, so State Farm and their lawyers took UPS to court FOR ME... You bet it was covered after that!

    Umm....yes?

The thing that really sucks it that I get preferred insurance rates as a CMA through TD Meloche Monnex, but they won't insure me because the vehicle is in Lisa's name. They can only provide me insurance if the car was in my name. And the online quote came back at $150/month. And we can't switch the ownership because it's a lease.

    I'm pissed.

hey peeps check out kanetix (.ca) and also try insurancehotline (.com) ... Its not spam they are legit sites.

just put in your info with what options for insurance you want (really easy to fill out the forms) and it will give you the cheapest insurance options available. Thats what I did and saved quite a bit per month. For me the cheapest was belair insurance, but its different for everyone depending on your location, age, gender, etc..

    hope this helps...

The tickets are old. My insurance actually went down. But I was expecting it to be much lower. I had 6 tickets, now I have only 2. And no new tickets in over 2 years. They drop off after 3 years, so my bext renewal should be better, but still. These rates are nuts.

I think all the insurance companies lost a ton of money in the stock market and they're punishing the policy holders because of it.

careful about td. they won't cover "modified" vehicles. such as those with cai. they consider that modded and will cancel the policy apparently. they might not touch jim's car because it has an exhaust that isn't stock too.

kinda like the aviation insurance companies. aircraft insurance went up big time after sept.11th. hmm, coincidence? i don't think so. they were trying to recoup their losses in record time.
