    Question on upgrading brakes

While putting on my winter wheels i noticed i'll be needing to change the brakes in a couple of months.I've got a 07 300 v6 and i guess i can upgrade to R/T brakes and i was just wondering if anyone has done this and if so can you give me an idea of what i'll need for parts, any and all advice would be great. Thanks

We did this swap a while back on a buddy's car - you'll need calipers and rotors, I think you need R/T brake lines, and you'll want some new crush washers (the copper ones where the brake lines connect).

You need the rotors because the diameter is different in front, and the thickness in the rear is different. Therefore the offset of the caliper is different, and one won't work with the other.

But if you can come up with the parts, the swap is pretty straight-forward. Let me know if you need some guidance along the way.

Don't the hubs need changing too or am I mistaken there?

No - the SE-SXT-R/T knuckles and hubs are the same. Only the SRT's knuckles are different. EDIT: I think the hubs are the same in any case.

I haven't confirmed the SE's personally, having never touched one, but I know the SXT and R/T knuckles are same same.

Now as for the rotors, here's an R/T rear and and SXT rear side by side. They're the same diameter, but you can see the R/T rotor is three times as thick. So the caliper opening is wider by that much.

The pads, however, are the same (on the rear only). The fronts on the SXT are single-piston, IIRC, whereas the R/T fronts are twin piston; also the diameter is different - and due to both of those things the pads are different as well - but the R/T calipers do bolt right on to the SXT knuckles, front and rear.

ok... QUESTION? I have an sxt, my rear rear rotors are like the r/t rotors.

Did some sxts come with the upgraded r/t brakes. I bought my car used and didnt ask anyone. My car also came stock wit R/T rims too. Jus looking into it before i go out and buy new brakes. Is there a clear way top tell for sure

Huh. In that case, I would think you've got the same brakes as an R/T, at least on the rear - the SXT calipers won't fit over the thicker rotors like that.

I'm not sure what package or model year might have had a brake upgrade....?

jonny, if your car came stock with 17's it didnt have the vented rear rotors. RT's and AWD V6's have the vented rear rotors. i dont think the RT rear brakes will clear the stock 17" wheels.

anyway. as junior mentioned, you can upgrade the brakes easily on a v6 to RT components. yes hubs are the same 05-08, gets confusing after that but yes they work too.
