New member: 2006 Hemi Magnum R/T AWD

    Hello all.
Just helped my father to purches '06 R/T Magnum the other month.
The car has 96xxxKm on it. It was in good condition when i picked her up and only one owner before us. Also came with the snow set, dealer put brand new all seasons all the way around, changed front rotors.
We are pretty happy with the car but the only thing we are suprised is the MPG. I thought cylinder diactivation would work much better. This car hauls a$$ but loves to eat gas none the less. Before that my father had V6 Ford Taurus wagon lol. Any tips to improve gas milege at all?
After a week of owning I changed the air filter to a new one and did 16 spark plugs (it was some what annoying job to do).
Later on this week or next week I'll be changing tranny fluid, transfer case fluid and rear differ. Anything else?

Another thing....Since this is mostly my dads car he started putting 87 Octane in!! He knows that the car calls for 89 but yet he doesn't really wanna listen. How bad do these high output Hemi's react to lower octane?
I really don't want him to screw up anything....but then he loves to be cheap.

For my personal car I drive 2006 Subaru Impreza WRX stage 2, runs on 94 octane and put down 207whp/273wtq on a low reading Mustang dyno.

I will try to take this beast down to St.Thomas next season and see what it can run. i assume mid 14's maybe.

I will post photos of both cars when I get home from work.

P.S. Does anybody know Canadian Magnum forums or this is it?? Not saying it's bad.
P.S.P.S. I'm down for some meets.

welcome to the forums. you didn't mention where exactly you're from, but i'm assuming the gta area?
sounds like you're off to a pretty good start with your dad's car. to get better mileage, you need to keep your foot out of it. haha. otherwise, various bolt-ons will obviously improve mileage (predator, intake, exhaust, etc.) but if your dad's too cheap for anything other than 87 octane it doesn't look promising for mods.
i'm not an expert on the octane matter, but i believe that by using 87 fuel the car will pull timing to adjust due to knock sensors thereby obviously reducing power. you'll find a large number of members here are running either 91 or 94 octane fuel and using diablosport predators.
come spring there's usually meets every week or two with bigger ones nearly every month. many of us boneheads in durham still meet every week in ajax even through the winter. ton of local members regularly make their way down to the tracks too. you'll feel right at home with both of those.
as for canadian forums, this section is probably the most active canadian forum you'll find around. there's also www.gtalx.com . most forums have a canadian section, but this one here's among the busiest.

    Thank you for warm welcome.
My old man is not into car modding so other then drop in K&N filter I don't see this car having any other mods. I'd like to find more info about Predator chip.
I live in Kitchener by the way but I'm in GTA often. I go to Pickering for work here and there and stay in Whitby. I just like to know the dates when these meets are on.
Quit often I saw black SRT-8 Magnum parked at Hooters there :D

Welcome from Maine. If your not going to modify the motor, You should look at a used Super Chip tuner. It will give you some choices for canned tunes, regular gas economy or premium gas and more power. The Predator is a great tuner, if you have a lot of mods- like cam, heads, turbo or supercharger, but for a stock motor the SC tuner will either get you another 1 mpg and or better performance. Regular gas won't hurt it, the computer will compensate for it. BTW. Stock it should put down 265-275 rwhp on that Mustang dyno perhaps 285-290 ft/lbs tq. Quarter mile times vary from car to car and driver to driver. From mid 14's to high 13's depending on air density/temp and track prep.

Welcome.... Enjoy the AWD... I do.

Stock... Mid 14s is about right.

While you're changing fluids, do the front diff too. There is no drain hole, so you'll have to suck the stuff out, then refill with 75W90.

As suggested earlier, if you're not going to mod it, then at least search for a used Superchips tuner. they can be had pretty cheap, and you can install the 87 octane tune.
It'll pull timing (and power) but keep the knock sensors from having to work so hard if your pops insists on running the cheap gas in it.

As far as improving mileage... just keep your foot out of it... I don't know how to do that myself, so I don't worry about mileage too much.

For forums... This is the best you'll find. Check out the Ontario section, the AWD section, and if you have any questions... Ask

Yeah I forgot to mention that I was gonna do front diff too.
I bought all bunch of stuff from dealer for maintenance that cost me $300 after tax. My buddy mechanic is gonna do all the flushing for me since I hate working in cold garage.

Used SuperChips go for about $300 I assume? Had "Super Chips Xcalibrator 2" for my Focus before.

Oh and great info guys, keep it comming. I'm trying to learn as much as I can about thise vehicle.

Are you sure that's for RWD?

i saw improved gas mileage when i switched from 87 octane to 89 in my 3.5l. The higher octane costs a little more, but the increased Mpg more than makes up for it, so I actually save money running 89. Tell your pops to give that a shot.
