    Question High Speed Internet

I’ve only got high speed light and have been thinking of upgrading to high speed. I don’t plan on doing very much downloading at all (no music, movies, etc), but most websites are so feature driven with lots of pictures, flash pages, etc, that its painfully slow on my light. Who are you with and how much are you paying?

Ultimately it depends on where your hitting. You can have the fastest connection in the world, but if the links between you and the end site are slow.... guess what... so are you

Besides, if you quit going to all the p0rn sites you wouldnt have a problem. lol You could turn off images that would speed things up

    So let me ask this:

I have an internet speed of 1.5 meg, but my speed for download is 443 kb/s, and my upload speed is 311 kb/s.

    Does this sound right???

    Thanks,

    Bob

Your download speed will only be as fast as the slowest link. I have extreme from Rogers which is >2.5Mbps but I rarely get any down load over 500Kbps. They tried to sell me the highest speed but I declined. Try servers in California, and then try something local to test this out. A congested Internet won't solve any problems.

Well, I'm here in Oakville too, and with Cogeco cable. I'm on the Pro plan, 16Mbps down/1Mbps up, 100Gb bandwidth per month, $64.95 however that price I think is part of a bundle plan with a DVR and HD.

I think you can get the Standard Plan for $49/ month and that would allow 10Mbps down/1 Mbps up and 60Gb bandwidth.

My speedtests to California are typically 8-9Mbps down and 500-600Kbps up. I got the bigger package for the combined up/down limit of 100Gb, as I do a lot of file transfer (music/programs/bit torrent etc).

I'm north of the QEW, which is typically all fiber optic runs down the street, and coax to the house. South of the QEW is sporadic, and speed depends on how new your neighborhood is.

I'm paying for 12mbps down and 1mbps upload. That's Cox's Premium or top speed that they offer in Tucson. They also do something called speed boost that's supposed to go even faster. Unfortunately my firewall is limited to 10mbps. Probably getting time to change it out but it's working great so I don't want to fix what's not broken.

Upstate Ny - Time warner cable.... I have the package with TV internet and phone for 100 a month, the internet is plenty fast not sure of the exact speed, I think its like 10mbs. Great part is there no monthly bandwidth restriction.

Well I called Bell to see what they could do for me. Based on what I use it for, he actually told me their "Total Internet Performance" package may be a waste of money for me.

As I already have my cell and home phone with them, he suggested their "Essential Plus" service, which would give me 2Mbps down, and 800Kbps up, for $27.95/month with 20GB usage. Granted its nothing compared to what most of you have, but its a hell of a lot better than the 128Kbps download I have currently with my high speed lite!

    Thanks all for your replies!

Since you aren't downloading music or videos, it sounds like a perfect plan for you. Best of all, you probably won't have to do anything, they will tweak your modem from your end (or maybe replace it?) and voila! Higher speed.

I have the standard Cogeco one. I used to have the "pro" but noticed no speed difference.
The standard one also gives a pretty decent security bundle with daily updates for FREE.

Why do I get the feeling more infractions are coming?
