Cruisin' for a cure Canada Car Show!

Hopefully it'll draw more attention/participants in this section:

I've been asked to help out with this great cause/Car Show. As we have many male LX/LC owners in our group I think it's a great opportunity to help the cause, also to have a free check up at the same time as showing off our cars.
For more info, click on the link in my signature.

2nd Annual Cruisin' for a Cure Canada

The Car Show That Saves Men's Lives!

    September 13, 2008

    Donald M. Gordon Chinguacousy Park

    Brampton, Ontario, Canada

To register/pay, volunteer or to sponsor CFacC, contact Jim Dorsey, Cruisin' for a Cure Canada Coordinator by email or by phone at 905-453-3038. Tell Jim you are with LXForums.com

On September 13, 2008, the Us Too! Brampton Prostate Cancer Support Group will sponsor the Second Annual Cruisin' for a Cure Canada.
Cost to pre-register as a show participant is $25 Canadian, by cheque payable to Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation. Spectator admission is by donation.
Pre-registration closes September 7 and is highly recommended to save you time on show day. You can register on site on September 13th , but note that Park capacity is limited to about 250 vehicles. The first 250 vehicles will receive free goodie bags.
The show is open to all classic, custom and special interest cars, trucks and motorcycles from Canada and the United States. Food and entertainment will be available and auto-related vendors will be on site.
This one-day car show is intended to increase awareness of Prostate Cancer and to generate funds for research into its causes, diagnosis and treatment. The event is staffed by unpaid volunteers, most of them Prostate Cancer survivors. Every penny of your registration fee goes to Prostate Cancer research as do net proceeds from the event.
FREE PSA blood tests will be provided to men over the age of 40 during Clinic hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Confidential results will be sent directly to their own doctors. Typically, a full 10% of the men that we have tested at similar clinics have been advised to seek further diagnosis. (Of 131 men tested last year, 17 were advised to seek further diagnosis.)
Prostate Cancer is a virtually silent disease that kills about 4,300 men in Canada every year. It's no longer "an old man's disease", as it strikes men in their 40's.
Prostate cancer has become as serious a problem for men as breast cancer is for women. Yet our Federal Government provides little or no funding for research into the causes, diagnosis and treatment of this disease - and OHIP forces men in Ontario to pay for their PSA blood tests.
This simple test is not perfect, but it is a vital first step in the process of detecting Prostate Cancer. Early detection can potentially avoid surgery and/or radiation treatments that would cost our Provincial health plan far more money. Once diagnosed, patients with more advanced Prostate Cancer can go on to live longer lives thanks to modern treatment protocols developed by dedicated researchers.
Chinguacousy Park ("Ching" to Brampton residents) is a 109-acre park featuring trees, grass, lakes and streams, a garden area and amusement areas for children. The Park is handy to freeways, hotels, restaurants and other services.
Please join us on September 13, 2008. Gates open at 7:30 a.m. Show hours are 10 a.m. till 4 p.m. PSA clinic hours are 9 a.m. till 4 p.m. Take a free PSA test and help us raise funds for Prostate Cancer research. All proceeds will go to The Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation to be used for LEGEND, a promising new research project being conducted at Princess Margaret Hospital.

Also if you think that you are to young to get tested... bring your dad, uncle, cousin... the testing is free!!! If you are close to 40 years old... get your body over there for testing... we don't need to lose anymore men regarding this type of cancer!

Over 50 lx cars registered for this event so far.
    IN CALIFORNIA!!

A fellow in Windsor that i know his Grandfather died from it.
Turns out he had it for years, just too embarrassed to say anything.
By the time it was found out by the family the tumor was the size of a grapefruit.

I know I'm not the only one that has a story similar to this.

Let's hope the reason for little response to this thread isn't embarrassment and/or worried what may be found.
As the linemonkey points out, waiting too long can bring worse news.

Time to give this thread a bump and to say that I've just finished registering and bought 2 shirts as well. Now I'm throwing out the challenge to the rest of the Durham LX Diehards to register as well and go represent for a great cause!

OK, if we want an area set aside for LX's, and friends, we need a list of who will be attending.

Hey Rab, I just registered. I was talking to the organizer of this at the meet in Etobicoke, and promised I would also help out. I will add this to as many forums as I can and report back here with people who want to, or are going to register
Here is the list on the 300 website: http://300cforumz.com/showthread.php...240#post235240
Is this strickly LX, or can we add others to the list?
