    Barter System Works

After going to Oakville they gave me a list of things which needed to be serviced besides the transmission.

    Differential drain and fill $190
    Throttle body cleaning $125
    Spark Plugs $285 minimum!!
Injector cleaning.. can't remember is was in shock
    from the first three.

Now for those who don't know I'm a BAP third shifter patiently
waiting to get called back so things are on a tight budget.

Bartering has helped many before me, many may think that it's
a poor man's survival tool. Actually it's a rich man's secret weapon as well.

The LX Forum family...the aura that emanates from here is one of calm assurance,
it's knowing in times of need your family would be there.

So,I call on a brother knowing his mechanical skills and offer my mad skills in return.

A barter was struck!!.He will do the plugs if i detail his car.SWEET!!
Now i throw the idea of a diff drain 'n fill by him.Sure he says, so I upgrade the the detailing from a quick megs
to a Zaino job with my own products I just happen to have.

Wow! He says right on! and off he goes.
Minutes later he's standing beside me wiping out my throttle body as I work on his car.CRAZY!!!!

------------------------------------------------------------------- NONE OF THIS WOULD OF HAPPEN WITHOUT LX FORUMS. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    .................................................. .................................................. ............................................................. ......................................

Thank You my LX brother. Thank You LX Forums

I can not agree any more. The LX family is what family should be all about. They are with you in the good times, and come to your aid in the bad times.

My hat is off to those that step up for the ones in need.

Nice to hear that good ole fashioned "lending-a-hand" in still in vogue!

And Gary said you were a chef...in Barrie.

    Yes I'm a professional cook/chef
Actually I was just offered a position at the Edgewater Manor in Stoney Creek.
I will be going to interview them this week.
    Anyone know this establishment?

    Thumbs up

    Great story.

    I like it.

Never would have thought of that.

I'm a mechanically challenged Accountant. Maybe I should barter too. I'll do taxes for people that work on my car.

Wait a minute, I don't even do my own taxes. Nevermind.

Good luck to the OP on getting called back to work.

With the fresh plugs Monica purrs again!!
The TB was dirty and the pumpkin juice was cloudy so I'm glad we did it.
I like being close enough to see whats going on with the car instead of being
behind a glass wall wondering,waiting...and wondering some more

    Hmmmmmmm.
Ed, as I was one of the coordinators of the previous action centre for laid off BAP employees, and I still try to help when possible (I gave a pile of resumes to a friend in Magna that was hiring).
As my body aches from over 20 years on the line why don't you zaino my car?
PM me your "barter" price, if you are interested. I'd rather support an LX'er (especially one laid off) than pay a detailer.

Rab I would gladly help detail your car!!

My employment status was added for flavor if you will not to solicit sympathy by no means.
Bartering is underutilized and the network we all have here at LX Forums is world wide.
This thread was to bring public awareness of options that they may have not known or forgot about,
and show apreatiation to a fellow member who stepped up.
    I'm OK really..

Gary has been coaxing me to do in home cooking parties/lessons which
I think I would enjoy very much. Informal, festive and informative.
Currently working on a tri-fold and infrastructure to make it happen!

Operators are standing by to take your call...

Knowing you as I do, I know it was not a sympathy seeking thread. It did re-open these weary eyes to the fact we should be "working" together in any way possible, as LX brothers and sisters. I'm actually doing this for dual reasons, it makes it easier for me and also helps a brother. After seeing the amazing job you did on your car for the Canada Day show, I'll become your agent and get you lots of work .
