OMG... so much for the "Free Trade" between U.S.A and Canada... Go figure!
I found out the hardway last year when I was ordering my auto- detailling eqipment and supplies from Detail King... never again.
I also got stung bad when I ordered scented candles from a company in Florida.... paid over $70.00 extra for Customs etc...I call this

Our countries should be allowed to trade across the border free.....!!!!

When you order stuff from US don't use a courier. Have the product shipped USPS and have the vendor put a $20.00 value on it no matter what it costs. I never pay tax or brokerage fees.

Nono, never $20, nothing more than $11 to be safe.

If you want to avoid the duties, ask them to label the package as a gift worth US$10. Nothing more than that or the US$15 trigger will put brokerage on it and taxes. Anything US$14 and under and it goes through like nothing with no other fees.

It isn't all tax, it is a brokerage fee as well.

If they want to play ball, then play with them. No sense being honest with a government that is so greedy it likes to rape and pillage an already overtaxed society.

Sounds like if you guys live anywhere near the US border you just need to do a "tourist excursion" across the border and then head for the nearest Discount Tire. Can they stop you from driving back across the border with the tires already on the car?

Reminds me of the old joke about the US Customs who are constantly suspicious of this one guy coming across the Mexico-US border every day on his bicycle carrying bags of sand hanging from his handlebars. Every day they stop him and dump out the sand and put it to every test they've got...always it's just sand and they let him go. One day they finally confront him that they know he's smuggling something but he has beaten all their countermeasures, they will leave him alone if he'll just tell them what he's smuggling...he smiles and says "bicycles"!

Canada Post will sometime put a fee anyways on the shipment. I have been charged some weird handling fee which is probably just a re-named brokerage charge.

Correct CPC does have a brokerage fee. It is a flat rate $8.00 per shipment for casual importations. UPS, on the other hand, is known to charge $50.00 for the same thing!
