    Scanner?

Anyone have a odb2 scanner? Wendy's SX 2.0 has a CEL and I would like to know what that's all about.. I don't have my superchips anymore..

Gary? Are you coming down tomorrow? Can't the superchips read codes from other cars? I don't want to make her have to pay to have the stealership to read them.. and I want to know what's going on.. I think it's just a misfire code.. she needs new wires and plugs REAL soon.. 100k kms and she apparently hasn't done plugs or wires.. (ugh!)

Please PM me with any events that you think Ontario LXer's might be interested in.

A true hot rodder wouldn't be content until he had created a car so violent, so hairy, so totally sick that the very act of dropping the hammer would result in instant death. Anything less results in the need to go faster.

    Hey Joe,

According to this website ..The code descriptions are listed as well.

Without starting your engine, turn the ignition key on and off 3 times leaving it in the on position at the end of the third cycle. This will start the "check engine" light to flash a code(s). The example for codes 12 would be like this. Flash, short pause, Flash, Flash long pause (Next code).
GrillCraft upper grill | NC-SXT lower grill| Custom Punisher Emblem | Daytona chin spoiler | Trufiber RTC Hood | AFE stage 2 CAI| Charger SRT rear diffuser | 20” Arelli F-16 | MyGig conversion| Tinted Tails | 6000K HID | 22Elite Leather Console Cover |Leather Shift Knob |Various colour matched parts |T Kutz Designs engine cover Insert | Backup camera |

Hmm Key dance works if I do it quicker..

    P0440

Possible cause is a gas cap not being on right.. and she's had a broken wrist for a while.. Betcha that is the culpret.. she didn't get it on properly and it's throwing codes..

Any idea how to clear the codes on an SX 2.0 (2003)? Will hammer google again, but seems fruitless.

    What does that mean?

This indicates that a part of the EVAP control system is no longer fuctioning correctly. The EVAP system consists of many parts, including (but not limited to) the gas cap, fuel lines, carbon canister, purge valve, and other hoses. The (EVAP) emission control system prevents the escape of fuel vapors from a vehicle's fuel system. Fuel vapors are routed by hoses to a charcoal canister for storage. Later, when the engine is running a purge control valve opens allowing intake vacuum to siphon the fuel vapors into the engine.
    Symptoms

You likely won't notice any drivability problems.
    Causes

A code P0440 could mean one or more of the following has happened:
    • The gas cap is not installed or working properly
    • The purge solenoid has failed
    • The canister is plugged and not working properly
    Possible Solutions

With a P0440 OBD-II trouble code, diagnosis can be tricky at times. Here are some things to try:
    • Remove and reinstall the gas cap, clear the code, and drive for a day and see if the codes come back.
    • Inspect the EVAP system for cuts/holes in tubes/hoses
    • Inspect for damaged or disconnected hoses around the Evap purge solenoid
    • Check and/or replace the sensor
    • Check and/or replace the purge valve
    • Have a professional use a smoke machine to detect leaks

got it sorted out.. there are only a few fuses.. so just pulled all the 20A ones till the code was cleared... All good now...

She was worried yesterday.. she went to Orangeville and called me worried that there was a stream of fluid coming from the car.. that coupled wiht the engine light sent her to canadian tire to get help.. I was under the car at the time replacing my fog light so didn't think about it too much and didn't think to ask if she was running the ac.... argh.. thankfully they didn't start replacing things at crappy tire. condensation.. taught her to grab a paper towel to dab the fluid to see the colour.. clear is fine.. brown/black is oil, orange/green is coolant.. red is transmission.. lol..

    Thanks everyone.. :D
