    Shelby GT500's

I have seen a few of these cars cruising around Calgary in the past few months and even had a somewhat limited go with one up top heading south out of the city… My question is has anyone actually seen one run at Race city?? (or Castrol)
Reason for asking is I have been hearing rumors the last gen cobras are about as quick at about 100hp less.
I know the weight on these GT500’s is substantially more but you’d think a ~500hp car would still be capable of at least a low 13 second quarter mile (in Calgary).

...I ran one in a 1/8 mile race...he was running low 9s which is close to what my car stock ran at the same track.

Well that’s interesting cause you’d think they would be stronger off the line and weaker up top as most SC’d cars are…. If that’s the case then maybe we do have something on them up top at least as I expected…
(I’m sure part of their problem is the tiny meats on they put on the stock 18’s)

So that would translate to low 14's by my old trusty x1.555 calculation to come up with 1/4 mile times from 1/8 mile, unless the vehicle is specifically geared for the 1/8th.

If you can solve your problem, then what is the need of worrying? If you cannot solve it, then what is the use of worrying?

My car when it was stock ran a low 9 high 8 at that track and a 13.5ish in the 1/4

Again we have to remember I am in Texas where the average tempature and DA are NOT what they would be in a better climate.

I would classify the LX's as being geared for the 1/4 mile with such a high gear ratio. That's gotta kill the 1/8 times. That calc is a rough estimate as all things are never equal, but I have always found it to be pretty accurate if the car reaches the end of it's rope at the 1/4 mile line.

If you can solve your problem, then what is the need of worrying? If you cannot solve it, then what is the use of worrying?

A GT500 will eat a stock SRT alive. I rode in one at Roush's factory... they're stupidfast. It was a 6-speed car.

I have my doubts they would “eat a stock SRT8 alive”.
(Mind you the magnums do typically run quite a bit slower than the chargers and 300’s so they may eat those)

What I’m looking for is actual ¼ mile times to compare against other SRT8 times (both stock and modded) to see what it would take to run with one. Ford claims they are built to compete with the Viper, but I highly doubt that.

    .
    Really???. OK.

Let me know when your ready to prove that theory

No doubt a good driver stock verses stock in the 500 would win an SRT. Sounds like Red ran up against someone that couldn't drive.
From wild to extra wild we got you covered with crap ya never knew you needed.

Don’t the magnums weigh about 150 lbs more than the chargers and 300’s??
That would make them about 2 tenths slower in the ¼ on average wouldn’t it??

I agree stock vs stock the GT500 should win (I hope so at least).
Just looking for actual track times so I know what to expect if I encounter one on the streets.

The mag only has like 175 lbs on the Charger/300... that's pretty much a drop in the bucket. All that weight is in the back too, which should help it launch. I've yet (sadly) to make it out to a track, but I wouldn't want to be either way against equivalently modded LX's. If you're ever in the area though Jay, I'll race ya for dinner :-)

The magazines generally test the LXs at about 13.1-13.5 in the 1/4. They have tested the Shelby at 12.5-12.8.

More ponies, better gearing and not much lighter than ours.
(Waiting patiently for the 2011/12 300C SRT 8)

I’ve run my car about 140 lbs (less the subs and amps) lighter at the track on the same night… the results were exactly 2 tenths difference… 2 tenths in a 13 second quarter is a good car length if not a little more… so maybe just a little more than a drop in the bucket

PS Im always up for a little fun run for a steak dinner, but lets make it up here in Alberta where the beef is better

lol... The closest you might find me is Windsor, but I probably won't have my car up there
