Smile Race City - Sept 25 SS SHow up

the calgary motorsports association has arranged an evening of "show them what we do" night at race city on friday sept 25th starting at 6:00pm. We are asking that any and all groups, racers, clubs and businesses come step up a display of cars and such to show the media and possibly city councillors' what race city is all about and why it is important to you and the city.

As many of you know, alderman mciver has entered a new motion to council to extend the lease to at least 2015 and see the lease through as written to 2025.

This secret street night will feature the edmonton police service drag team and hopefully some representation from calgary police service.

We encourage everyone to come down and show off your motorsport and help the track maintain the lease. This will be the last hurrah and this council decision will decide the final outcome of track motorsports in calgary. Bring your car and or set up a business display.

Please remember this is a secret street night, so there is a charge of $25.00 to
race and a $5.00 entry fee to spectators. Please be prepared to pay to enter.

Please make the effort to support alderman mciver and represent your sport, for aracer i can't think of anything more important at this time in calgary to do on that friday night.

Please pass this email to your members and others that you consider would benefit thesport. If the city does not extend the lease, then this will help prove to the city and media thatthis sport matters in calgary and may force the city in helping provide something new.

Alderman mciver has gone to bat for us, we as a group need to show him and the city that we take our sport seriously. Please show up!

    guys,

please listen to this warning. There will be zero tolerance next week for stupid activities at the track. This is going to be due to all the media coverage and special people coming out.

1, there is no movement of a vehicle allowed with the hood up.

2, if your vehicle is running, someone has to be behind the wheel.

3, return road speed is 30kph. If we see you screwing around, you'll be asked to leave. Same goes for the rest of race city, keep the speeds slow, there is very often kids running around with their parents.

4, please respect if we ask the spectators to move back behind the wall to a certain point, it's for your safety and for us to be able to move vehicles around that area (ie, tow truck, ambulance, track vehicles)

5, alcohol is not permitted at the track. This will get you banned. No second chances. If you want to drink it, go somewhere else. Same goes for showing up under the influence.

6, no one starts a burnout until either the guy at the tree has given you direct hand signals, or the guy in the water box has. This is for our safety.

7, at dusk, headlights and tail lights are required.

8, try to stop at the tree, rolling burnouts are only tolerated for the promods and top fuel cars. Unless you were able to beat rick's fairlane in the street car shootout, then you don't need to do this.

9, if you have a helmet, wear it. This goes especially for all convertibles, targa tops, etc...you are required. Make sure that the chin strap is done up too, we watch for that on the start line. seat belts
are mandatory too (we have caught people not wearing them).

10, if you're not sure, ask one of the volunteers. If we don't have an answer, we'll get one for you.

yes, we are all volunteers out there. If anyone would like to help us out, please let me know, an extra body will not be turned down.

i know this all seems like alot, and most people already know this stuff, but it's still has to be said. I hope that i have not offended anyone. If you are on any other boards where people are talking about coming out next week, please re-post this there.

thanks for reading, i hope to see you next week. It looks like there will be alot of club support for the track.

    scott
come support your track, i dont live there but i love it

Man I wish I had a set of drag radials, or knew someone who had some. Can't get no traction. If at all possible, I'll be there. This is especially important to me as there is another annual event there that I attend. It won't be the same without my annual ProTrucker Magazine "Big Rig Show and Shine".

this is the email that was sent out to subscribing members of race city: Basically the provincial city Police Depts went ahead with what the RCMP were trying to get started, I think it's a great idea to show that there are responsible people out here that want to keep the racing on a track, and if the track is closed we can surely count on increased illegal street racing.

I hope to get back into town in time for this as I may run the FJ down the track with some of the Toyota club guys, unless by miracle the dealership calls to say my car is in?? Then all hell is gonna break lose hehehehe

    To all Motorsports enthusiasts.

Attached you will find the press release of our upcoming event Friday night Sept. 25 during the Race City Secret Street program. support by showing up at the event and those of you that are bringing your cars for the static displays, I especially thank you. Those of you that want to bring your cars please contact me. Also those that can contribute financially to this event you can make your cheques payable to "Motorsports Council of Calgary". Many of the clubs have committed to donations of anywhere from $100 to $850 dollars and for that I especially thank you.
Our goal is to have huge media coverage of this event the weekend before the final council vote and we are hoping to sway some opinions. We have tried to invite some Alderman out to this event so they can see first hand the amount of would be Street Racers after the facility closes. Perhaps give your Alderman a call and cordially invite them out to this event.
I am thanking you in advance for all your effort on this.
