For Out of Province inspections the only place that is licensed is Canadian Tire locations, any licensed Mechanic can do insurance inspections - all he needs is the form from the insurance company & his license number.

    A Small correction
Can tire is the only place to do out of Country inspections (RIV)
any licensed shop can do out of province if they are approved by alta gov and have the paperwork,
ppl like me can do insurance inspections(licensed) but not set up to do oop..

Correct. Canadian Tire is for Out of Country, most authorized garages can do provincial inspections. A quick perusal through the Yellow Pages will show some than can. Good luck.

Might be my bad but here in the Hat Can Tire is the only place that can do an OOP inspection (except for the shops that have current certificates), two guys I know went to renew thier OOP certificates and were told they weren't renewing them as Can Tire is the authorized shop. Both these shops are up to date with fairly new equipment.

And yes, I too can do insurance inspections.

Dealerships can do OOP inspections (at least the couple Dodge dealerships I've been too can). What ever 'Rod you are running...I'd go to a dealership of the same make. You'd be surprised at how many Mopar guys refuse to work anywhere but a Dodge dealership, Chev guys same thing. They will be easy on you and not stack up a bunch of BS $$$ grabs at you.

What this 5 year rule? I have had cars and trucks sit in my garage for far longer than 5 years (unregistered) and then re-reg'd them no problem. Just brought in an OLD reg slip and got new stickers no questions asked.

Precision Performance on Yellowhead and about 66st is also a good place to go. The owner is an old drag racer who thankfully does not charge you by the hour to stand around and talk about cars LOL. The shop is pretty busy though, so you might have to book a few days in advance.
