Never heard of such a thing, especially if all the mods are street legal.

I'm sure most people don't notify their insurer that they are making their car faster (if in fact that's what your son did). It probably sets of all kinds of red-flags. Hence, I've never heard of someone getting dropped. Not all mods are performance related, but shhhhhh..... about the ones that are.
Hope he finds a better insurance company.

my reply, as seen on Charger Forums.

Hey AB, that sucks, what kind of car is he running? I informed my company about all of my mods, and updated them on what I had invested. They increased what my car was worth and left my payments the same! So if I get smacked up by some schmuck, I get a bigger payout, but my premiums didn't increase.

I think he'll get a new insurance company pretty easy, although with all those new racing laws in Ontario and the "seizure on the spot" penalties, it may be the reason they don't want to cover him.

I plain out just don't tell my insurance company, I did one time and they doubled my rate. But I was also only 16 years old, maybe age has a factor as to the reason why they cut the insurance off.

He is 27.. and the mods are tires/wheels, exhaust, CAI, lowering and a couple of engine upgrades.... Considering what Chris said, it is ridiculous that they would do that to him...

Aye, problem is there are no regulations in place because alot of that has to do with Provincial law and most ppl just don't care hehe. Figure you just switch companies, you guys gotta have a bunch in central there.

I personally use Morgex outta Edmonton, they've always treated the fam and i really well, and we're 5 hours away hehe.

ING... The broker is Canada Brokerlink Inc. But I also get better treatment due to my employer, and the fact I've been with the company since I was 16.

LOL! You're employer provides specialized driver training in specially modified vehicles, which IMG MAY take into consideration and the years of service MAY have something to do with it.

I've never told an insurance company about any mods, but I did have a bad experience with State Farm when I lived in the US. I had an accident (not my fault) with a two year old car and they charged a "betterment" on the paint. Essentially they depreciated the paint! Needless to say I switched companies and have since warned everyone to stay away from them!

Personally, I think one would have to be a fool to spend thousands of dollars in mods and then expect the insurance company to reimburse the client for those expenditures when something bad happens to their ride and the company didn't know of the mods. The company will NEVER reimburse the client for add ons they didn't know about. So essentially, the owner just pissed all that money away...I was with ING/CBL, like Chris, but they pissed me off by not quoting me the discounts they said I was entitled to when they gave me their policy renewal, blamed it on some newbie or something.... So I went with Direct Protect, a Cooperators subsidiary. See what happens I guess. My sons' insurer is State Farm.
