    Edmonton area Radar Detector installers??

I'm about to buy the Valentein V1 detector, with the remote display option. My goal is to have the unit and display installed with direct wiring (ie no cords running to the lighter etc). I was planning to put the remote display down on the dash below the ignition. I want the install to be permanent and as hidden as possible, with no wires showing at all.

Has anyone had any similar type or custom work done in the Edmonton area, that was good enough that they would recommend the shop to others?

So far I have talked to JB's on Fort road, and AutoTemp on the south side. AutoTemp gives me the better fealing of success of the two. I am willing to talk to anyone recommended here to see what they can do for me.

P.S. - If you've had a less than desirable experience with someone, post it here too, so I can make sure I don't go there. Thanks!

I was going to mention Auto Temp myself. Back 10 or so years ago when the radar detectors were ILLEGAL i had them install an imported FOX radar detector totally hidden. What LAW BREAKER hey. Not sure who was more at fault me or Auto Temp for installing it. LMAO Does Auto Temp supply the detector you want or are they just going to install it ?

I'm just looking for the install to be done. I don't think the V1 is sold by anyone in Canada, and I've looked around for the last few months while researching which detector I would get. The manufacturer does sell directly to the customer though (based in the US), and will ship cheaply to Canada, which is good.
I was about 60-40 between the V1 and the new Bell one, but there is no remote/hidden display on the newest Bell, which is something I want for sure. I think I'll be moving to Ont next year, and the detectors are not legal there, so I need that old time stealthy install

There is a writeup here on how to wire into the overhead console. Whether you do it or have someone do it the info in there is helpful.

When it comes to wiring I always do it myself now. I had a stereo "professionally installed" into my car about 20 years ago. What a mess! I decided I couldn't possibly do worse, so I took everything out and redid it myself. The results were much better. Personally I'd recommend you try this one on your own. Just take your time and I'd bet you get a better result.

By the way, although I haven't read any comparisons lately, all the older comparisons I've ever read always ranked the Valentine number one. Good call!

Thanks for that input guys, but if you knew me, you'd be telling me to find a professional to do ANY wiring LMAO. I have no skill whatsoever when it comes to wiring things. I could probably do the unit and remote install myself, but without power, that's kind of a waste

I will have to pay someone to do it, which I know is typically not the smartest move for such a simple thing, but I know my limitations, and trust me, anything electrical would better left to a monkey to do rather than let me do it. I have reviewed the installation how-to's on the forums, and they might as well be written in Russian lol

Thanks again for the input, and please, if anyone else has had a good experience (or bad) with an installer, please let me know who it was.

I can do it if you like; I hard-wired my 8500/X50 into the upper binnicle (switched). I could recommend AutoTemp, but you need to be there and inspect their work during the install. We used them to install GPS/DGPS guisdance systems, although they functioned properly, the install was anything be neat and tidy. Unfortunately crimp connectors are used throughout.

Thanks Dokey & Moebius (very nice offer!)....BUT....I just had the detector and the remote unit installed last weekend. I went to AutoTemp on the south side. They actually did an excellent job, listened to my instructions, and followed them exactly. They only charged me 1.5 hours labor which works out to about $90 with tax, which is well worth it for me, considering my skill with electrical installs So far, it's working great, and actually saved me twice just this weekend already!

If anyone comes across this thread later on, I would recommend AutoTemp for a V1 install, but there are a few other suggestions in this thread that may be even better.
