Well the drag racing season began and ended for me that night ('cause I'm on nightshifts for the season-ender).
I went to the extreme to try to better my best drag racing ET of 13.82 sec. I gutted the interior as much as I could without removing the front passenger seat, too. I also added some octane boost, made sure I'd burned off enough gas to roll in with only about 1/4 tank, programmed the cooling fans to keep the engine consistently cool, pumped up the front tires to 45 psi, and dropped the rear tires to 20 psi.
I know, I know - it looks like a lot of work, but really it only took about 1/2 hr to do all that. Plus, taking the seats out gave me the opportunity to vacuum out about 4 crayons, a handful of cheerios, a goldfish cracker and a french fry! I left the Polly Pocket and heart stickers on the door panels, though. They're a big hit at the track - HAHAHA! That, AND the fact that it's a station wagon and it also has a hitch.
Here are the contents of the rear of my car all lined up against the wall.
Here's my racing number for '09. Lined up for my first run. Just before my second run I was pleasantly surprised to see my bro-in-law and his family walk into the line-up! They'd seen my wife's Facebook status update that she was bringing the girls to the track to watch Dad race and decided to come on out, too. Awesome!
Lined up behind a schweet Nissan GT-R and beside an SRT8 Jeep Grand Cherokee. There was a lot of nice hardware throughout the night! I didn't top my best time but came within 3 hundredths of a second of matching it at 13.85 sec and 103 mph. The air was just terrible for making power - stayed too warm all the way through midnight and almost no humidity (never mind that we're already at 2200 ft above sea level) - BOOO! Still, I had a great time and got a total of 10 runs in, and I never got beat all night, including when up against a couple of SRT8 models. My engine temps leaving the line were consistent at 183 to 185*F, and my gas light came on with two runs to go - perfect! The next morning it took me about 45 minutes to return the interior to normal so I could take my daughter to piano lessons - LOL!
My wife got a pretty good video of my best race of the night against an SRT8 Magnum. We left the line even, both hooked up, and ran side by side all the way out the end where I beat him by a tenth! I think he went home after that because I never saw him the rest of the night.Once I figure out how to get a video set up on here I'll post it. For some reason the audio isn't working in that particular video on my PC.
Anyway, I had a blast. As always, I think I left another tenth or so at the launching pad.
