    Castrol Raceway Fridays

Well i just got back from the fun night of racing. I met one other member from the chargerforums (westerncharger) actually got to race each other. Pulled a 13.8 then kept going down, as the car warmed up it got worse and worse. Reaction time were not too bad 0.451 i think i could have done better. I was side by side and lost by a fender to a Cobalt SS (MODDED), damn those things are fast. That was an awesome race though. Heck for the last two hours i just went in the stands and watched. If i was looking for something cheap to do on a Friday night $10 to watch would be a bargain. I think i'm making this a regular deal, race one week watch the next. O ya and take the wife sometimes.

You lost to a Cobalt!!! (J/K) yeah, we have a few seriously modded ones around Calgary... Full exhausts, Tuned, larger injectors and smaller pulleys make for mean little 2 doors.

It sounds like a great time. Where is this track?

It's at the International Airport, west of Nisku about a mile.

When are you coming up this way? Still want that grill.

    Hey Guys

I was at RaceCity last night and there was some pretty fast 4 cylinders there as well. Including some cobalts.

There was a 300 SRT8 there as well and the best be could do was 14.4. Sounds pretty slow compared to most of the times I have seen on the boards. His times were consistent with mine from last year around 14.2.

I think it is our elevation of 1200 M or 4000 ft. Anyway I am hoping to get mine out soon to run again. Looking forward to seeing what she can do with the mods I have performed.

What is the elevation of the Castrol Raceway? If it is much different I would be interested in running my car up there to see the difference.

Yep, it's the elevation. I've never run my Magnum at the track, but I used to run my Firebird at Race City and most people there said a normally aspirated car would lose about a second at that altitude. (ie the 1/4 mile time in Calgary is about a second slower than at sea level) Turbocharged or supercharged cars also lose power, but not nearly as much. The cobalt ss is supercharged, so thats why it seems so fast here. The same race at sea level should put the SRT in front.

Edmonton is lower than Calgary, but not by much. I'd guess a normally aspirated LX would pick up .1 or .2 over Race City times, but its just a guess.

By the way some of the members were worried about not being able to use DOT approved helmets, skidoo helmets or motorcycle helmets. DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT !!! The tech guys told me that Street Legals don't go fast enough. Only if your 9.9 or faster as i just found out a roll cage is needed for 9.9 or faster.

I thought you were lower than us here in Clagary. I've been told we're at 3300 ft, so a 1000 foot difference. That explains why my car always seems to have more grunt in Edmonton!

    It could be the altitude.
But I like to think it's the superior air here.

Rick, I was born and raised in Edmonton and now live in Calgary, so I'm OK with both cities. (However this season we seemed to have a slightly better hockey team here in the south)

It might be worth driving up just to watch. I wonder if I could talk the girlfriend into a road trip?

Gates open at 5:00 and racing starts around 6:30. There should be a couple of the members out racing this week. I know when i mentioned the NOS kit idea to CHUSE2MUSE yesterday, he was interested as well in maybe getting it as well. He may also show at the track as well as westerncharger again from the chargerforum. It would be great to see more of us members racing.
