This may sound lame but I use my electric leaf blower and then follow it up with a microfiber towel to get all of the excess water. The leaf blower blows all of the big water off.
Blade and towels, very efficient. Need to be fast on sunny days with a black car.
Chamois, followed by my air compressor to get the cracks and crevises, then lastely I use a Microfiber towel to get the rest.
Just a chamoi but I'm thinking about trying out that water blade to speed things up. You have to be fast here. Water spots are lethal!

I use a water blade sometimes late at night or early in the morning, also I love the Mr Clean car wash thingy works great as long as its cool no drying hit any water spots with instant detailer.
Microfiber followed by Detailing spray and another microfiber..................
the Absorber Then I Finish With Microfiber Towels
then a beer....Microfiber followed by Detailing spray and another microfiber..................
Water blade to get the bulk off and then chamois the hard to hit spots and the chrome!

Try the link above. Ebay auction for a nifty little product a detailer recommended to me. It folds up/stores inside a small plastic container and is ready to go once you pop the lid. I've used it 5-6 times now, and find it to be extremely absorbant, soft and easy to use. Guaranteed not to scratch and works better than a chamois IMO.
Went back to check the link, and realized it's password protected.......anyway, go to Ebay and search for:
