Unhappy Can this tire be repaired?

Well, I guess looking at tires jinxed me. I picked up a souvenir on the road this afternoon.

Is this too close to the sidewall to be patched?

    Here's a closeup

Here's the tread depth (the car easily does burnouts now )

Just drop a tire plug in it and it will be fine. You should keep tire plugs in your car for just this sort of thing. If you plug it just don't drive at high speeds. The plug will last the life of the tire. You can get plug kits at your local parts store, Napa, Pep boys, etc.

That is kinda close to the sidewall but yes you can get it plugged....

I thought that you were buying new tires???

Cause it looks like you don't have much rubber left on this tire....

Dismount it and hot patch it, I have popped plugs out before, the extra $10 is worth it.

Yes, must agree a patch beats a plug. The steel belts chew up plugs.

judging from the tread depth I wouldn't waste my time on that tire and just buy some new ones

any "gum plug" you can do from the outside of a tire is only temporary. they are made of wax and yarn, when the wax dries out they will leak again. they also allow moisture into the belts of the tire at this point causing the belts to rust and the tire to separate and possibly fail.

only RMA aproved rubber plug and patch repairs done on the inside of a tire are lifetime repairs.

With steel belts that actually take so much flexing that close to the sidewall it's a hazzard. Alot of tire shops wouldn't touch it due to liabilty. Can it be plugged...yes. Is it safe...not 100%

that's considered a sidewall puncture. only tread area punctures should be repaired.

    yessir

no way would I plug that.

Dismount and patch, and even that can still leave you with a risky tire.

    Ouch, time to buy new?

I doubt a patch would hold better than a plug in that area. Too much flex that close to the sidewall.

Too close to the side wall for any shop to repair. I would just plug it myself though. Use a plug and not a patch.
