UPDATE: New thread started.
I've had it with the recent feel of this group and want to snap out of it.
Who's up for a nice weekend cruise of LXs? You pick the weekend that we'll do this.
I propose a cruise down the coolest highway in AZ.
US191. Otherwise known as "The Devil's Highway". Formerly US666.
A perfect location for all of the AZ LXers to meet up for a sunny day of relaxing driving!
I haven't personally drove that stretch before but, from my research, it's the road with the most twisties in AZ. I've even asked the author of the above linked site and he concurs!
Here is his reply to my questions about the road:
I have to say though; this is a potentially dangerous road so, if you plan on attending this cruise, please be very careful. That's certainly the best for twisties in Arizona, up there with the Tail of the Dragon (US 129 in TN/NC) and the Beartooth Highway (US 212 in MT/WY).
The only other roads I can think of are US 89A in Oak Creek Canyon and Jerome, and the Catalina Highway to Mt. Lemmon near Tucson. They don't have nearly the number of turns, but are more accessible.
Allow at least 3 hours to get between Clifton/Morenci and Alpine, and note there are limited services at Hannigan Meadow only. The portion between Alpine and Hannigan Meadow is fairly straight. There are many scenic spots you can stop to have a picnic/BBQ.
So? Who's in?![]()
