Cpl. James Lindsey (jtl13f)
Charlie Co., 3rd regiment, 509th Parachute Infantry Division
Killed April 12th, 2007 by a roadside bomb
As we spend our days with our families driving to and from work I often wonder how many of us take the time to actually thank our protectors for all they do. I and my family take the time as often as we can to thank those in service, and those that have served for allowing us to flourish here as they risk paying the ultimate price all over the world. I have never had any military personnel be anything but humble towards the appreciations we expressed.
I often take a moment and send emails out to the military members here on lxforums, and I had hoped to send one to James, but I just did not get it done in time.
Let me take this moment to tell each and everyone of you that the house of full knows how important you and all you do is to our way of life. I thank you for the warm home and wonderful family I am fortunate enough to have.
Let me also take this time to express my condolences to every family that has lost a Son or Daughter, Mother or father, Brother or Sister, Best friend or lover while they were protecting all we have.
I have the good fortune of being able to afford my life style, I came from a poor family, but have been able to rise above poverty and with just a public school education I have had much success. I wanted to do something for the family of Cpl. James but really am not in a position to give as much as I would like to. Today I had the good fortune to be able to put some thing together that should fill that heart felt need to do something.
I called fellow magnum driver Jeff Riedel to tell him about the club and invite him to join. I took the opportunity to explain to him that we hoped to do some charity work at least once a year. He with no hesitation offered up to Arizona lx club one flight package at no cost to raffle off to raise funds.
Well it is a most generous offer indeed. I do not know if many of you know of MILE HIGH az but I think they will be a fine asset to our club. Jeff is also working hard to bring some of his models to the event Saturday, and I look forward to having them there.
Jeff is a retired military man and considers the chance to help with our effort to remember one of our own a real honor. He was most helpful in brainstorming for this project. With his help a direction to take this effort was brought to light. Thank you Jeff, now let me tell you all here what I would like to do with Jeffs wonderful offer.
I would like to put this package together with a hotel stay and perhaps a round trip flight into the valley in case there is a winner from out of town. I want to have this raffle available to all members of the forum. I am currently looking for any help providing the last two parts of the package and any one with ties to either industry please point me in the right direction. I will be contacting a local military charity in the morning to see if I can get any help putting this together from them. I know that there are legal requirements to holding a raffle, so there will be no tickets sold until all requirements are met. I have had so many awesome offers of help from the members of this club, and now it is time to take each of you up on those offers.
Please give a moment of time to consider the goal here, we want to memorialize our fallen friend, and also do what we can to help his family. I would love to have a nice book to sign for the family for Saturdays event, also if any one is good with a printer it would be nice to have a large picture of James for the event. The first page of our calendar will feature chargers and his picture, I hope that is acceptable. I would also like to have a second book to sign to send to Virginia Tech to express our condolences to all those families as well.
I will post more on this as it evolves.
all the best,
now drive on
