Well guys,
Add me to the list of those seeking employment. As of 4:00pm today my employment was terminated. I cant go into to many details because of discloser of proprietary and sensitive information but this is the gist. I just got back from working a convention in Las Vegas; 3 18hr shifts and 2 14hr shifts plus travel time. At these events we had setup a small network of 5 laptops, 1 of which functions as a server and stores a database with sensitive information. This particular server of sorts was also our primary laptop for general use (Powerpoint, Word, etc). Due to lack of preparation on other people's parts we had to alter this database and ASP website files on the spot through VPN/remote desktop over a aircard speed (50kb a second) connection last minute (4hrs before needed) and this was nearly 2 weeks worth of work. Well after we made the necessary adjustments to configuration the laptop was locked to the table with a cable lock as other employees needed to use this computer for Powerpoint. I verified that this work room (dedicated to our company use) is a secured location, was assured that it was by 2 organizers of this event that there were only 3 key holders for this room all management level employees, and lead staff. Well....they lock up that night and we come back in the morning and the laptop was gone the cable lock was broken off of the laptop and the company iPod with all our presentation video files and music was gone. We spent the next day filing police reports and I spent all of 8 hrs reconfiguring one of the other laptops to function as a server. I was successful and the event proceeded without hiccup.
The following hours after the discovery of the stolen laptop I was all but directly blamed for the theft of this laptop. Not any of the keyholders who are reponsible for locking up the room, not the staff for stealing it....ME! Because I was the one who believed the upper management (keyholders) who told me it was a secured area. Lesson learned...believe me. Well we returned to the office this monday to a lot of tension and unspoken words between executive management and department heads. I was called up to HR at 4pm and was terminated due to neglect to secure sensitive company equipment and cost them potential monetary losses due to said information. My defense was of course that the sensitivity and security/encryption of the information stored on this database was not my responsibility and I was assured by the keyholders of this work room; management employees of the company that is was a secured area. This fell on deaf ears. I was told on my way out the door by my direct manager and his boss that they fought tooth and nail against this coarse of action and they seriously regret me leaving the company and I was an asset to their department. So.... here I try and move on.
If anyone can keep their eyes open for jobs I would really appreciate it. I currently have my 2 yr degree in Business Marketing and will graduate in 2010 with 4 yr in Marketing from Grand Canyon University. I have 5 years of experience as a commercial photographer as well as event coordination and print/web media advertising. I know some HTML/ASP/J++, thorough knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite applications, graphic design experience, etc. I also provided IT Helpdesk for PC and Mac platforms for the company mentioned above for 2 years.
If anyone has any contacts that I would be a good fit for please let me know.
