Whereto? for the 4th of July

Just wondering where the best spots for fireworks displays are in Chicagoland.
This is our first Independence Day in Illinois so we're still learning the area.

Naperville's fireworks are at like 9PM. It's one of the bigger displays in the state...

The 3rd? As in, not on the 4th of July?
    Why is that?

It's always that way. There's so many municipalities putting on shows, if they were all on the fourth, the sky would be practically cluttered. Chicago always has theirs on the 3rd. If I had to guess, I'd say it's because that way nobody ever, ever has to go to work the next day (well save a few choice professions). Whereas if the 4th fell on a Sunday, less people would want to make a night of it for having to get up early the next day. Courtesy of

I'm staying home and looking out my front window as it's like the wild west out here. Besides I'm still recovering physically and mentally (sleep) from being deployed to southern IL for the flooding for the past two weeks.
