South Florida - Drag Racing - Moroso - Sept 22nd!!

That's right folks!! Here is the next event! ANY LX is welcome!! Just because you missed previous events doesn't mean you have to miss this one! These events are a TON of fun!

SSsssssssoooooooo.....come on folks!! Lets get this one fired-up and ready to roll!!

Remember folks...You DO NOT have to be fast. You have to be consistant! Meaning, a tricycle can BEAT an SRT8!!

Someone asked: "What is bracket racing?" Here is an explaination provided by some friendly folks:

ET Racing, or Bracket Racing as it is commonly called, is the "grass roots" level of drag racing. It was started as an alternative to the high-dollar class racing of the 60's and 70's, even into today. Bracket racing allows almost anyone to race, on a fairly even playing field. This variety of the sport places much more emphasis on the driver than the car itself. It has now become the most competitive form of drag racing in the world, with the largest number of competitors. In the last couple years, Junior Dragster classes have become all the rage: 1/2 scale dragsters powered by 5 horsepower Briggs & Stratton motors for kids up to 15 years old.

All right, here's the real basic principles of bracket racing. At a race, you are given several time trials, which are used just as practice, and to see what times your car runs. In eliminations, which are single elimination tournament style, it's you against one other racer. You select a time that you think your car will run. That's called your dial-in. When two cars compete, they subtract the dial-ins, and the slower car gets that much of a head start. The theory is that if both drivers get identical reaction times, and both run what they predicted, they will meet right at the finish line... a tie. In practicality, this never happens. Reaction times will differ, and the car may run quicker or slower than predicted.

Reaction times are a huge part of winning (or losing!) races. They are also perhaps the most difficult part of drag racing, although it seems deceptively simple.

Now you say, "Why don't I just dial-in at 18 seconds, and I'll get a big head start and win?" There's the trick. If you run quicker than your dial, you lose! This is called a breakout. Basically, this means that you want to guess exactly what the car will run. If you guess far quicker than what the car can run, you won't be able to run fast enough, and your opponent can easily beat you to the finish. If you guess far slower, a practice called sandbagging, it is very likely that you will break out and lose.

There are many complex situations that arise from these handicapping rules. What happens if both cars break out? In this case, the car that runs out the least wins. How can someone win if they didn't cross the finish line first? If the other car breaks out more than you do, or he runs out and you don't, you win, no matter how much he beat you to the line by. Because of the possibility of breaking out, there are actually many instances where you will hit the brakes to win!

    There's what Moroso looks like!!

Okay folks... We are gonna do the same thing we did last time...Meet up at Pompano Beach service plaza(Turnpike) at 3:30, then head north to meet at that Publix on PGA Blvd (just west of the Turnpike)at 4:30, put a couple gallons of "go-go juice" in the tank, and then get to Moroso at 5??
This will give us enough time to cool the engines a little bit, and make our runs!

    Here's the list....

Yeah, but there are stories floating around that even some stock SRT's that used D/R's broke their shafts. It's better not to take the risk of waiting 4 hours to get a ride home from Moroso.

OK...here is my "new-ness" to the LX cars showing...
Why can't you get a pair of 17" rims and throw on a set of slicks? Is it because of the HP you are pushing?

Forgive me, as I have been racing a C5 Corvette Z06 for the past year. I know the half shafts on the C5's are OK, but not the greatest (had the outer joint starting to go bad on my Z before I traded it in). Any insight that you can share on how all of you drag race your LX's would be great. Like:
Do you do just a quick dry spin on streets?
Do a tire burning wet spin on streets?
    Launching...
    Do you launch at idle?
Powerbrake it? What RPM do most use?

Thanks for any insight you can give me on drag racing the LX.

    Eveyone is different, however

Half shafts on these suck , especially when you start putting blowers and quaife differentials in the srt-8's

Mine is a 5.7 however. Here is what I do

Do you do just a quick dry spin on streets? Yes

Do a tire burning wet spin on streets? Only at the track (using Mod to turn of ESP completely)

    Launching...
    Do you launch at idle?
Powerbrake it? What RPM do most use?

I have no stall converter so I launch at 2,000 while powerbraking.

Best time with CAI and Superchips tune (before cam and heads) on heavy 20's

    13.8 @ 100

Have not tested it yet after cam/heads but expect that to drop down in the high 12's as others have experienced after the same mods.

Many guys have put in 2800 stall converters, which obviously changes the whole launch experience.

If you ask 10 other people you will get 10 different approaches.

No sir..You do not have to be seriously modded to break a 1/2 shaft on a SRTThe 5.7s seem to do just fine..
Shafts have been broken under all different kinds of instances..But
D/Rs being the biggest one even if you are N/A or not...

Not to mention they cost an arm and a leg to replace them and if you want to go with stonger ones it cost's twice as much..
