    I need some legal input

    I'll try to make this short. 50/50 business partner becomes unethical and we agree to part ways. They want all intellectual property and none of the company debt. Now I've proof they have redirected my e-mail through them and read everything. They pass on only what they want me to get (invoices and such). Now...what is the case law regarding e-mail and it's theft?

    Is the email handled "in-house"?? Meaning, in the office or is it thru a corporate email server miles and miles away??

    it's through GoDaddy, all our business e-mail addresses went to our company account and were then forwarded to their set points. our partner went in the account and rerouted the mail for me and then dealt with it as they wanted

    hhhmmm... Could you go thru goaddy and re-route it all again yourself?? I don't know about legal proceedings tho... I was just tryin' to help from an IT point of view...

    You should have access just like him/her, if he has changed the account settings then you will have to go through the ISP to get this resolved. As far as the other then you need a good lawyer to get his/her attention!!! I hope you had a business contract between the both of you, you would have recourse if that is the case. Hand shake agreements are hard to prove by both parties.

    If its a company e-mail account and you guys don't have any written rules about who is authorized to make account changes... my guess is, you're hosed.

    Company e-mail is not private. "The company" can read it all they want, they own it.

    I'm not looking for legal council here. I have that... there is just not a lot of case law on this and wondered if anyone here has experienced it personally or if you know someone who has.
    The laws around email as well as LLCs are vague sometimes and without precident no one wants to write new laws.
    There was nothing for them to get, I'm just really pissed that they felt the need to be so sneaky and invade my privacy.

    I really don't think this was a company email thing, he said they both had there email routed through THEIR Website, GoDaddy an ISP. I wasn't trying to give legal advice just hoping you have a contract of some kind.
