Horrible Dealer
Well as some of you all know, over the Labor Day holiday I made the trek down to central FL for my grandparents 60th Anniversary.
Well on Friday Sept 4th I was driving down in my Daytona, and my mother was driving her truck. About the time that I was getting into Tampa I received a phone call that there was something wrong with my mother's truck, and being the good son that I am I went back to pick them up. Well I got back to them and managed to trail them as they limped the truck to the next exit. There I had a chance to take a look over the truck and imediately knew what was wrong with it. One of the bearings in the rear diff had died.
So this brings us to Sat Sept 5th. First thing in the morning(around 7:35) we called Courtesy CDJ in Brandon FL. They told us that they would have a roll back go pick up the truck and he would be leaving in the next 10 minutes. Now keep in mind that the truck is only 25-30 miles away. Right about noon we get a phone call from the Courtesy and that they have found the problem with the truck. They proceed to tell me that the reason the truck won't start is because there is Diesel in the gas tank. Being that I'm already pissed about the truck breaking I bit my toungue and told the guy as nice as I could that there was absolutely nothing wrong with the engine and that the problem was in the rear diff. The guy on the phone instantly started to appoligize and say that maybe he was thinking of another vehicle. Considering I used to work for Chrysler I can see this as a possiblity but looking back now I only see this as the first sign of there ineptness. So then I get another call from them at 1:20(they close at 1:30) to tell me that they think the problem is a dead bearing(mind you I told them this when I called them at 7:30) and that they would have to wait till Tuesday to order the parts and that the car would be fixed on Wednesday. Also told at the time that the bill would be around $1500 parts and labor.
So at this point the parts list is:
Carrier Bearings
Axle Bearings
Carrier King Pin
Axel locks
Rear Brakes(about time anyways so jsut had them go ahead and do it)
Given that he has already given me a parts list I figured it was safe to assume that they have already opened up the diff and taken a look around.
Thankfully my grandfather has an extra vehicle and gave my parents his GMC Sierra to drive home.
Now its Wednesday, Sept 9th. I get a call from Courtesy telling me that they opened the diff up and that there are lots of parts sitting in the bottom of the carrier and that they are going to have to order a new Pinion Gear and Ring Gear. I about loose it and tell the guy that the truck was supposed to be finished today and ask how the F*#& they didn't notice all the parts when they opened it up on Saturday. I never did get an actual answer to this just a lot of shuffeling around it. SO I tell the guy to be certain to keep the old parts and that I would be there Saturday to pick up the truck. Oh and get this the price has now gone up to $2600.
Saturday Sept 12th arrives. Get to the dealership to pick up the truck at around 8:00. Stand in the there for about 15 minutes before anyone actually decides to help us. Ask for the old parts to take a look at and wouldn't ya know they can't find them. At this point I'm about as pissed off as its possible to even get. They hand us our paperwork and our truck key and they proceed to tell us "Your truck is out there is the side parking lot somewhere. It's not a very big lot so you shouldn't have a problem finding it." I'm about ready to reach across and choke the a$$hole but I'm happy to get the truck back so I let it slide. Get out to the parking lot and guess what, no truck to be seen! We manage to find the truck on the back opposite side of the building. Go to start the truck and all I get is a Click Click Click. The stupid F*#^$ left the lights on and now the battery is dead. Go back inside to let the idiot behind the counter know that the battery is now dead. He snatches the keys, lets out a big sigh and wanders into the back. Thats the final straw, I break. I then spend the next hour letting the Assistant Manager(the manager was coincidently not there) know exactly what I think about him, his service writers, his mechanics, his mother, and the dealership.
If I would have known it was going to be this much of an issue, I would have rented a trailer and towed the fricken truck home with the Daytona.
So word to the wise:
STAY AS FAR AWAY FROM COURTESY CDJ IN BRANDON, FL AS POSSIBLE!!!
