Unhappy Florida burning again or is it still.

Today has been one of the worst here on the west coast. Maggie is covered in ash and the smoke is so thick you could swim in it.

How are others in the state making out?

It has been nice here in Jacksonville the last few days, but then again, that's because the wind has been coming off the ocean.

Orlando the smoke comes and goes, but I am watching weather right now and the SE satellite show it going straight over from NW of Jax to Tampa, so heavy it looks like a solid cloud. I feel for you guys up north and over west, its been a rough week for everyone in the norther 3/4 of Florida with all these fires. Now it looks like not even any real rain from this storm to help things out.

Starting to get really hazy here in Sarasota, I just got a news release that by 4pm today visibility could be down to 1/4 a mile or less.

Tampa Bay is a mess. We're buried in this stuff. Its totally in our building and everywhere else.

I think our ducting in our building is f'ed up, but of course our boss isnt even considering just closing the place up. Nice that she's so concerned for our well-being.

Its like the world is ending. I hope that if they find out someone is actually setting these fires, when they catch them, they're executed by smoke inhalation.

Yeah, good thing I rinsed the love bugs off last night...

Now my car is covered in soot and ashes. The inside of my car no longer smells new. It smells like smoke.

    PU!

Hope this clears up for any car shows this weekend or the one in Cypress Gardens next sunday.

Its not as bad here on the east coast in WPB but you can deffinitely see the smoke in the air, the smell is bareable! Though were not gettin much smoke were deffinitely making it up in beach erosion! It better start rainin soon, I hate not being able to wash the charger when ever I want to! Hope all is well, as can be expected over on the West Coast and throughout the state

I feel for you guys out there - I was living in Julian, CA (San Diego County) a couple years ago when the Cedar fire came through - largest wildfire in state history - 720,000 acres. Very nearly wiped out the whole town, but fire departments from all over the country came in to help, and they made a valiant stand around the town and saved it - many of the surrounding neighborhoods were wiped flat, though... something like 20% of homes in the area destroyed - many entire sections just black earth... Cuyamaca was entirely destroyed (over 90% of structures...) Lost power for a week and a half, this thing jumped the I-15 (8 lanes) in a couple spots, wiped out lots of Poway (Scripps Ranch), etc...

The fire started only 10 miles or so from us, we were up on the mountain, with the Santa Ana's blowing the fire away from us, but the thing was still creeping up the hill, gaining against the wind - then the winds stopped and the thing took off... engulfed the area, flying up the canyons and crowning all over the place. Pretty crazy time.

    Keep safe out there!

EDIT: Here are a couple links to stories about that fire:

And that was at 9 this morning, it is worse now.

Where I am located for work it's not real bad yet, but if I look out towards I-75 it it's looking really bad.

Here's a webcam that shows what it looks like here.

Do the animated ones (especially the 30 day one) to see the smoke.
