*** SOLD ***
I'm selling my 8 core Nehalem Xeon Mac Pro as I have recently shut down my publishing company and no longer need a machine this large and this powerful just to read email and surf the web.
I am the original owner of the system and it is in perfect condition operationally and physically. The machine has never even left the room it's in. The machine was always rock-solid in both Mac OS and Vista (using Bootcamp).
Stock configuration includes:
-- 2x quad core Nehalem Xeon processors @ 2.26GHz (with dual thread and turbo boost for 16 logical threads).
-- DVDRW Superdrive
-- USB Mighty Mouse
-- USB aluminum keyboard
-- Nvidia GT120 graphics
The machine has been upgraded over the stock configuration with:
-- 32GB DDR3 memory (8x 4GB modules)
-- Airport Extreme Wireless Upgrade kit
-- 2 additional 640GB WD Caviar Black edition SATA hard drives in addition to the original 640GB hard drive. I'll throw in a 250GB hard drive that I had used as scratch space as well.
-- LG BD-ROM/DVDRW drive
The machine is the quietest running machine I've owned and without the front LED, you'd be hard pressed to tell it's on. Current operating system is Leopard 10.5.6 (fresh install) and the original disks, manuals, boxes and packaging are included. BD-ROM retail software is included if you plan on running Windows.
Purchase price was $2799 back in 8/2009 - which does not include the expense of going from 6GB to 32GB RAM, the 3 additional hard drives and the BD-ROM.
Asking $2300 + shipping. Serious inquiries only.
Paypal preferred. I haven't used heatware yet, but my Ebay ID is dmem and I have a 100% feedback rating on 735 transactions. I've had a few transactions on LXF as well.
Please see the following photos to judge condition:
Thanks for looking,
Dave

A year n a half ago I bought 2008 2x 3.0 quad, with 16gb fbdimm, and upgraded to 128 SSD for boot. Run a few vms on it via fusion. Rock solid. DDR3 in your rig is Much much faster. Oh yeah I paid I think 3200$ with a stock HD n 4gb ram.
New Mac pros on the 16th is the rumor too.
I'm upgrading from 22" 2008 iMac to the basic MP quad at work now. It's already been ordered n our fiscal year ends in a few days so we can't return n upgrade for new model. Doh
Thanks - I've got 2 interested parties locally, so hopefully it's a done deal by this weekend. I'm really going to miss this machine. It's by far the most reliable computer I've owned and it still feels incredibly fast. I closed down my hobby business doing desktop publishing, so I just don't need this behemoth around to surf the web and read email.
I did see that there are expectations of a bump up to Ivy Bridge based Xeons - should be interesting performance-wise. I've also read that others have had success hacking the firmware in my model so that it can run Westmere Xeons - that's dual 6-core. I've never ran out of threads to do work, though. I also have a Dell Precision 490 with dual 5335 quads and 16GB FBDIMMs - man those are some hot running memory modules. The Dell is a room heater compared to the Mac Pro which runs faster and has more RAM.
