    Texas speeding tickets

Two weeks ago on a trip from San Antonio back to OKC, I got pulled over in Austin for 76 in a 60 on I-35. Cop advised me to try to fight it just in case he "forgot" but I dunno if I have time to fight a ticket that the court is over 350 miles away. I don't want this going on my record any time soon because I currently am getting kicked out of the military due to medical reasons and will be looking for a job that probably requires driving. Anyone know how to deal with over the phone? Thanks a ton in advance! I don't have a problem paying for the ticket, just trying to do this without going down there again... Advice appreciated!

Yes, give them a call and state that you live out of there Jurisdiction and have them transfer it to your city where you can handle it. Or just take the drive and don't get another one. I had one years ago and they dropped it over the phone. I just told them I would never drive in there town again. That was 18 years ago and I have never went back. Good luck,

    Jay

If you want to spend the bucks you can hire a local lawyer to represent you in court...

    This may work:

with ticket in hand, call the court:

OPTION 1 (always preferred); ask if they have "deferred disposition" --
in case they do, find out what the rules are and how to handle it.
usually a fine, and you have to not get another ticket for the deferral period (ranges from 2 weeks to 6 months)
At the end of the deferral period you may have to prove a clean record by sending a notarized copy of your drivers license record from your state.

OPTION 2: ask if they allow you to take DEFENSIVE DRIVING course -- if so what are the rules and how to handle.
You can take the course now on the internet, pay your fine, send proof of course completion, and you are set to go.

    GOOD LUCK!

I've always found that when an officer tells you to "fight it" he might not show, is his was of telling you he won't.....

If he said that, then it might be worth while to make a quickie trip back to Austin. I know it is a long ways.
Unless you are going for a driving job, I'd be surprised if the new employer cared.

I've always used option one myself (a few times) but I'm local. It costs more than the ticket, but if you don't get a second ticket within the specified time (3 months) the ticket goes away and the points don't count! The downside--if you get a second ticket within the 3 months, BOTH tickets count and you have to pay for BOTH tickets!!! The fee you pay for deferred ajudication doesn't count toward either ticket...

Austin is a speeding friendly town...... they will actually let you take defensive driving twice in one year! Yes.... I had to do just that earlier this year. I had just completed a course when Austin's finest got me again! I say take defensive driving or go the deferred route. Either way it will cost you a couple of hundred after court costs and taking the class online..... but you'll be done with it!

Sounds like they have all the answers, would say the DDC would be the easiest route.

Just did this, so I know it works.

I contacted the law office of Stewart Rojo, an attorney in Austin. For $150, he took care of everything, including getting me defensive driving, without me ever having to call anyone or go anywhere. I'm not advertising. I just dealt with a speeding tkt in Austin myself and am not from that area. Look up the number with 1-512-555-1212. Good luck!
