Exclamation Anybody been on the new tollway yet?

SH 130, SH45 North, and the Mopac (Loop 1) extension. All concrete, so your tires "sing". Loaded with cops. Speed limit is 70 and with little traffic yet, it's mighty tempting to bury the speedo needle. I was playing with a new Mustang GT yesterday. I had passed him, but I let him pass going thru the toll booth. We both nailed it, then I slowed down, and nailed it again. Caught him at 120 and let off the gas and coasted only to see a black and white. Glanced at the speedo and saw I was around 75. Whew, what a relief. Radar detector never went off, but I imagine he would have been after us if had had seen us moments before.

So Austin has a tollroad now? North or south side? Hope my EZ Tag works over there.

North. SH-130 goes from north of Georgetown to Manor now and the southern section (from there to south of the airport) will open next year. SH-45 goes from 620 to 130 just north of Pflugerville. Your Tx Tag will work here. Here's a link TxTag.

Thanks, Moparman53. You know, people expect that Houston has a lot of traffic congestion and delays, but I think Austin has been as bad as it gets.

I hope this takes some pressure off.

Also, I wish the traffic engineers in Austin would wake up and program the stoplights better -- you can literally sit at a light in Austin for 5-8 minutes.

(But Austin's God's Country -- you gotta love it!)

If you like that area, go on I10 past San Antonio as it starts to edge north..........the hills turn into mountains. Looks like a wild wild west movie.

The cops on the tollways stay plenty busy. I live on SH130 so I use the toll roads all the time.

I get on the tollway about once a week at Pecan St. and drive until it ends just west of Manor. Folks live just east of Manor. I have to agree that it makes you wanna bury the needle just to see what it can do, but I'm starting to notice more black and whites on there now.

I've found a place where they hang out when they're not trolling (patrolling). It's roughly halfway between SH130 and IH35 on SH45 on the north side of the road. It's a good sized building there. There are usually about a dozen or so civilian cars there and a B & W or two.

    Exclamation New section opened today.

From Hutto to Georgetown opened today. That means SH-130 from US-79 to IH-35; about 15 miles. That's all the north part opened now. They only have to finish the section from Manor to Mustang Ridge (US-290 to US-183 south of the Austin airport).

Today, I made it from Strait Music at 620 and 183 to the Round Rock Post Office in 10 minutes by going on SH-45 to IH-35.

oh yeah. the tolls roads are open. Yes the Texas Tag work on these too. I have seen quiet a few folks getting pulled over between the Arboretum area and Round Rock. Really stinks!

And YES that surface makes the tires scream! Those new 255's are really loud on the toll roads though are fine just about anywhere else.

Today, I drove the only section (SH-130) I hadn't driven yet; IH-35 (north of Georgetown) to 29. From my house up north to there and back south, west, and north to work is 54 miles. I did it in 52 minutes.

    Question

Anybody notice something unusual about the new tollway?

There's no big rigs (trucks) on it. I've been driving it for around 6 weeks now and I can count the number of big trucks on one hand.

I see them on 130 fairly often. I live off 130/685 and Gattis School Rd. There have been lots of DPS by my house lately too.
