    2007 SRT track experience@TMS

Who's going and what day would be the best? I want small crowds so I can have plenty of time with these cars. Looks like Feb 23,24&25

TMS is supposed to be almost the same facility as Rt 66 in Illinois, or so I thought... the SRT guys said there wasn't enough pavement at Rt 66 for one of these events.

Does TMS have more than a 1.5 mile banked oval and a drag strip?

    Thanks,

    Don

Ah, Rt 66 / Chicagoland Speedway has grass parking lots... that must be their issue.

    Thanks,

It has been since 91 or 92 since I drove on that one. At that time, there was not a strip and I really doubt one has been added. This track is primarily used by clubs and media now days I hear and has never really been a money maker, so I doubt they have expanded much beyond the road course extension of about 94.

Gee, sure would be nice to take our own out there for comparison or maybe a fun day.

BTW, TWS was supposed to be built as a twin of Michigan's speedway of the early 70's. Was that Michigan International?

I made it to Billy's place. I can hardly wait until I'm sober enough to drive myself. Thr car sounds and feels awesome. It leaves a stock RT in the dust.

I think TMS and the Chicagoland Speedway were built to the same plans.

But right next door to the Chicagoland Speedway is Rt. 66 Dragstrip. They share common parking, office and staff.

Though they once setup a raod course for a big bike race, I don't think anyone was happy using the dragstrip and paved pit area for a road race. At Road America last year I asked why there was no SRT Track Experience here and they told me when they sent out their crew to check it out, there wasn't enough pavement. You'd think that with a 1 1/2 mile oval and a dragstrip, there would be enough, but what do I know

I was at TMS (Ft. Worth) last year for a LEO ride & drive and they set up a few cone patterns on the infield. It looks huge but the pavement quality can be iffy in some places. One of the outer parking lots is where they usually set up ride & drives and I know it's good, we've done LEO driver training there before. Couldn't tell you about TWS (College Station) haven't been there.
