MoFO 4.1 - HHP High Flow Cats & S&B Home Brew

    ~ The MoFO 4.1 ~
What: HHP High Flow Cats / S&B Frankentake II
When: This Friday, 6/30 9am-3pm 'ish
Where: SVS R&D, Sacramento CA - "The MythBreakers"

In the great tradition this forum has come to expect as a result of the GIFO testing, the newly renamed "MoFO Certification Team" (some say 'Certifiable') brings you the next installment of mod testing, myth breaking and just plane "for the heck of it" fun.

MattRobertson aka "The Walrus" will be running the following tests

    1. Baseline
    2. Typhoon tube and S&B
    3. WR tube and S&B - "The Frankentake II"

The cats will be installed and the same three tests will be run again. Time yet again to see what these new mods are actually worth!

Here are a few threads that encompass the lead up to the MoFO 4.1.

PS: We're calling it 4.1 since its only going to include a couple of items, and no track time. Matt is funding this entirely out of his own pocket, and we owe him his thanks, not only for the financial support but for his time as well. Big thumbs up buddy!

As an FYI on the schedule for anyone who wants to stop by:

We will be doing the baseline dyno runs asap in the morning. Then there will be I suspect at least a 4-hr break in testing and install while my stocker brake system is removed and my big brake kit (rotors, calipers etc.) goes in. Then the cats (15 minutes I hear) and finally we dyno again.

If a miracle occurs and the weather cools off I will head to the track, but if it stays as hot as its been it would only be an exercise in frustration as my last runs at GIFO4 were in decent weather, and we all know what the heat does to an LX's times.

You nuts need to quit having these events when it is so hot. Hopefully we can get together in the fall for some special software testing. I have enough heat around here, I don't need to travel across the country to enjoy it. LOL!

Hope to see everyone soon and thanks for all you are doing.

We need SVS to open a shop on the coast is what we need... On Saturday I drove from Fresno and it was 108. By the time I got to Monterey it was 60 and *foggy*. Slept with all the windows open. People think I'm crazy but hell... at home I have to pay a fortune for that kind of A/C so I'll take all the freebies I can.

Awwright you guys... Back on topic.

In case anyone is wondering why I am messing with this Frankentake thing, and the S&B filter, I am trying to accomplish two things:

    1. What is a cheap way to add to an existing aftermarket CAI and have it make more power? The S&B has tested out to be an excellent performer at GIFO4, and its cheap.

    2. the WR prototype #2 tube mated to the S&B made a lot of hp and tq at GIFO4. But there's no way it would ever fit in the car. Can the prototype #1 tube, which *almost* fits, also make power over a simple tube? If so then I'll pursue with Weapon-R and see if they are interested in making just a tube for us, since we've recently learned -- pretty much for sure I think -- that heat soak is not an issue with the 5.7, and we have plenty of air circulation under the hood with a couple of free mods... so there's no need for a fancy ram air scoop or a sealed airbox.

I would have liked to have tested a big AMSoil filter as well, but thats going to have to wait for another day.

In the long term, the goal is to produce an entire intake system out of freely available parts... one that makes good HP and costs less than anything on the market. Provided you don't mind spending a couple hours in the garage. We're only at the groundwork stage of that project at the moment.

Yep, cause I'm a doof and didn't get this announcement up earlier.

If there is anyone out there that'd like to lend Matt one for testing, I'll pay for overnight shipping both ways. Send me a PM

There are NO shops like this around here anymore. All the dinosaurs are now extinct here in NY. Back in the day 69-71 for me) we had 10 speed shops between 3 towns her in Westchester.

This time I don't think so, but maybe. Depends on the attendance level at the shop I guess. At GIFO4 we had an assembly line going full speed with all kinds a warm bodies lending hands and screwdrivers. And cute announcers. This time its just me, both with the mike and the wrench. And you already know what I look like on camera.

Its just a dot-release MoFO. We're only testing two things. Maybe the thing to do is video the dyno runs. Pretty sure my camera can do that at 640x480 no sweat. But not all of them as I have some pic-taking plans during at least one set of runs.
